Indiana State heads back on the road for weekend series at Western Kentucky

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State heads to Bowling Green, Ky. and Nick Denes Field for a three-game weekend series at Western Kentucky spanning March 6-8. All three games will be carried live on 105.5 The Legend with live stats available on the calendar at GoSycamores.com.
 
With Wednesday afternoon's game against Lindenwood postponed due to weather, the Sycamores will now open the 2026 season with 16 consecutive games away from Bob Warn Field prior to their home debut on March 13-15 against Gonzaga.
 
Recapping The Weekend
  • Indiana State claimed the inaugural Atlantis Collegiate Baseball Series title this past weekend as the Sycamores took two of three games against Penn State at the Andre Rodgers National Baseball Stadium.
  • The Sycamores claimed the 8-5 win on Friday night, before recording a 2-1 victory on Saturday afternoon to clinch the series. Penn State rallied back to win the Sunday finale in extra innings, 9-8.
  • Caden Miller was named the Tournament MVP after posting a .385 batting average with four RBIs over the three-game series against the Nittany Lions.
  • Nick Sutherlin was Indiana State's leading hitter with a .545 batting average, including three doubles, and added four runs scored on the weekend.
  • Mason Roell added a .500 batting average and recorded his second home run of the 2026 season, an inside-the-park shot in Sunday's finale, while adding three RBIs.
  • Jack Armstrong and Colby Morse both recorded wins on the mound for the Sycamores as the bullpen recorded all three decisions on the mound. Armstrong worked 4.2 scoreless innings on Friday evening with a career-high seven strikeouts, while Morse worked the final frame in the Saturday afternoon win.
  • Ty Brooks continued his dominant start to the season going 7.0 innings allowing three hits and a run while striking out eight in the Saturday start. It marked his second consecutive quality start on the mound.
  • Justin Hoff and Hunter Small both recorded saves on the mound.
  • The Sycamores posted a 4.18 team ERA over 28.0 innings of work, while adding a 23:12 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Opponents hit just .238 from the plate against 11 Indiana State pitchers. 
Season Spotlight
  • Jeremy Martinez (.345) and Caden Miller (.302) are both hitting over .300 on the season through the first 12 games of the year to lead the Indiana State offense.
  • Martinez has posted a team-high .474 on-base percentage among the Indiana State lineup regulars, while adding a .552 slugging percentage.
  • Miller is tied for the team lead with 12 RBIs and enters the week on a four-game hitting streak, while also driving in RBIs in four of the last five games.
  • Nick Sutherlin is just under the .300 line with a .295 batting average, sitting tied for the team lead in both home runs (2) and RBIs (12). He also leads the team with 13 runs scored.
  • Carter Beck has been a mainstay in the Sycamores' lineup with a .277 batting average and is tied for the team lead with four doubles, while adding 10 RBIs, 12 runs scored, and three stolen bases. Beck currently heads into the week with a 16-game on-base streak.
  • Six different Sycamores have recorded multiple stolen bases on the year paced by Beck, Emil Estrella, and Jorge Cartagena with three apiece.
  • Three Sycamores have been penciled into the starting lineup every game so far in the 2026 season with Carter Beck (CF), Emil Estrella (DH/RF), and Nick Sutherlin (INF) everyday starters. Caden Miller, and Caleb Niehaus have also been on the field in all 12 games.
  • Ty Brooks headlines the Indiana State pitching staff to date with team-highs in innings pitched (22.0) and starts (4), while recording two of the Sycamores' six wins on the mound. Brooks has a 1.23 ERA, a 16:3 strikeout-to-walk ratio, and a .108 opponent batting average.
  • Jack Armstrong and Colby Morse both have two wins apiece on the mound on the season.
  • Armstrong is tied for the team's strikeout lead through the first three weeks of the season as the right-handed reliever has posted 16 strikeouts over 11.1 innings of work. He has allowed opponents to hit just .054 from the plate on the year while posting a 0.00 ERA and receiving win against Miami (Ohio) and Penn State.
Sycamores Against Western Kentucky
  • Indiana State and Western Kentucky have not lined up against each other since the 1985 season when the Sycamores traveled to WKU over April 2 for a doubleheader, while hosting the Hilltoppers on April 24 in Terre Haute.
  • The teams split the doubleheaders to finish with a 2-2 record against each other in the 1985 season.
  • Overall, Western Kentucky holds a 5-4-1 edge over the Sycamores dating back to their inaugural matchup back on March 20, 1982, in Bowling Green.
  • This weekend marks the first three-game series played between the two opponents. 
Sycamores Against Conference USA
  • Indiana State has a storied history against two members of the current Conference USA membership with former Missouri Valley members Dallas Baptist and Missouri State both joining the conference over the last five years.
  • Dallas Baptist joined the C-USA in 2023, while Missouri State is in their first season as full members of the conference after joining this past fall.
  • The Sycamores have winning records all-time against current members Middle Tennessee State (19-7-3) and New Mexico State (3-1). 
About the Hilltoppers
  • Western Kentucky enters the weekend series with a 7-7 record over 2026, including wins over BYU, SEMO, and Indiana.
  • The Hilltoppers have posted a 7-6 overall record at Nick Denes Field, with their lone contest away from home coming at Kentucky over February 25.
  • Western Kentucky was selected fifth overall in the Conference USA 2026 preseason baseball poll after receiving 97 total points.
  • Infielder Kyle Hayes was the lone Western Kentucky player recognized on the C-USA's preseason All-Conference team.
  • Lane Arroyos is the leading WKU hitter over the early part of the season with a team-high .365 batting average with 19 hits, seven doubles, and 15 RBIs.
  • Camden Ross (.319) and JP Acosta (.314) are both hitting above the .300 mark on the season.
  • Kyle Hayes has a team-high three home runs and 11 RBIs, while Reid Howard paces the team's efforts on the base paths with nine stolen bases in 11 chances.
  • WKU is hitting .267 from the plate as a team with 10 home runs and 22 stolen bases on the season.
  • Aaron Robertson (1-0, 1.69 ERA), Gavin Perry (1-0, 3.38 ERA), and Dominic Monaco (0-2, 12.00 ERA) all have three starts over the early part of the season and have been the team's mainstays in the weekend rotation.
  • Zach Lyles (1-0, 2.00 ERA) has been one of the primary weapons out of the bullpen with a trio of saves on the year.
  • Overall, WKU has posted a team-high 5.33 ERA with a 129:50 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Opponents are hitting .286 from the plate.
Indiana State Baseball Season Tickets on Sale Now
Season tickets for the 2026 Indiana State baseball season are now on sale as the Sycamores head into their second season under Head Coach Tracy Archuleta. The Sycamores will play 21 home games inside Bob Warn Field this season, starting on March 4 against Lindenwood.
 
Reserved chairback season tickets can be purchased for $110. General admission season tickets will go on sale as well with adult ($75), seniors ($55), and youth ($40) tickets also being available for purchase. There will be a $5 surcharge added to those wanting tickets printed.
 
The Sycamores have teamed up with Pacesetter Sports and the Spirit Shop for the third consecutive season for a season ticket deal. Fans will receive a $50 Pacesetter gift card for each $110 reserved chairback season ticket, $35 gift card for each $75 general admission season ticket, $25 gift card for each $55 senior general admission ticket, and $20 gift card for each $40 youth season ticket sold.
