TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Indiana State Softball returns home this weekend, as the Sycamores host the UIC Flames for a three-game series on March 13th-14th. ISU and the Flames will open the series with a doubleheader on Friday before concluding the matchup with a single game on Saturday.
This series marks Indiana State's second conference matchup and will look to carry momentum from last weekend's successful series against Bradley and strong performance against Purdue.
The Sycamores showcased strong defensive play and hitting throughout their first Conference series. In their first win over the Braves, ISU exploded with a 10-2 win highlighted by three home runs by freshmen Mallory Chavez and Addie Burns, and junior Lauren Marsicek, as well as a six-run fifth inning rally. The Sycamores claimed the series with Sunday's 8-4 win thanks to a four-run fourth inning highlighted by a Bradley error allowing three Indiana State runs to score. Mallory Chavez added a two-run triple in the inning to secure the series win.
Against Purdue, Indiana State battled a ten-inning game where a 2-2 scoreboard remained unchanged for eight innings. A double from Claire Connelly and a single from Morgan Goodrich helped Sycamores Madison Poulson and Brailey Mills score.
In the circle, Lauren Sackett led Sycamores' pitching efforts over the last four games. The redshirt senior pitched all ten innings against Purdue, recording a career-high 12 strikeouts against the Boilermakers. She enters the series with a 2.88 ERA.
UIC enters the contest with an 11-12-1 record, and the Sycamores will look to continue building momentum as the season ramps up.
The first pitch for Friday's match is set for 1 p.m. ET at Price Field.
