Chavez Named MVC Freshman of the Week

ST LOUIS, Mo. - Indiana State freshman Mallory Chavez has been named Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week following her dominant performance for the Sycamores this past week.

Mallory Chavez was a dominant force at the plate throughout the weekend series against Bradley, providing the consistent power and run production necessary to secure the series victory.

Chavez posted a .667 batting average, recording 4 hits in 6 at-bats, which included 2 doubles, a triple, and a solo home run for a total of 11 bases. Her elite plate discipline was on full display as she drew 2 walks without recording a single strikeout, contributing to a 1.833 slugging percentage and a .750 on-base percentage.

Across the three games, she tallied 5 RBIs and scored 3 runs, including a two-run home run in the first inning of the series opener to set the tone for the Sycamores. Chavez also showcased her versatility and speed on the basepaths, successfully swiping a base in the series finale to cap off a weekend where she maintained a 2.583 OPS.

This recognition marks Chavez's first career MVC weekly honor and highlights Indiana State's continued impact in the Valley during the 2026 season.
