ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Indiana State swimming and diving swept the conference's weekly honors this week as the Sycamores claimed all three weekly awards for the second time in the 2025-26 season.
Grace Cummings was named the conference's Swimmer and Freshman of the Week, while
Jecza Lopez claimed Diver of the Week honors following Indiana State's performances this past weekend at the Tim Welsh Classic. Cummings received Freshman of the Week honors for the fourth time, while Lopez's Diver recognition marked her seventh time receiving the award this season.
Cummings continues to set new marks in the Indiana State swimming and diving annals as the freshman became the first Sycamore in program history to win an event at the Tim Welsh Classic hosted this past weekend by Notre Dame. Cummings claimed both the 500-yard and 1000-yard Freestyle event wins on the meet and then added a third-place result in the 200-yard Freestyle to highlight the most points Indiana State has scored at the Tim Welsh Classic (644.5) in program history.
Cummings topped the field in the 500-yard Freestyle on Friday morning as the freshman touched the wall in 4:47.90 to win the event over Notre Dame's Emily Hamill (4:48.51). Cummings followed up by taking nearly two seconds off her seed time in the 200-yard Freestyle as she went 1:50.34 to tie for third in the event. She finished her individual events with the 1000-yard Freestyle where she was just .6 off the MVC record set by
Claire Parsons last season, touching the wall in 9:46.97 to win the event by nearly 16 seconds.
She highlighted her relay appearances helping Indiana State finish third in the 800-yard Freestyle Relay with her leg of 1:50.90 helping pace the Sycamores to a 7:22.60, third all-time on the Indiana State All-Time Performance List.
Lopez was the top Indiana State diver at the Tim Welsh Classic, posting sixth-place results in both the 1M and 3M Springboard diving events. Lopez scored 284.40 in the 1M finals over her six dives, while the junior went 277.00 in the 3M finals to wrap up the weekend's event.
