TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State football's Plez Lawrence was named this week's Hannig Construction Indiana State Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced by the athletic department Tuesday afternoon.
 
Lawrence racked up a career-high 225 total yards and scored three touchdowns (two rushing, one receiving) in the Sycamores' 41-24 season-opening win over McKendree. He averaged more than six yards per carry on his 21 attempts, while averaging better than 20 yards per reception on his four catches. Each of his three touchdowns came in the second half, where the Sycamores outscored McKendree 28-12.
 
The Kokomo, Indiana, native scored the first of his three touchdowns midway through the third quarter, capping a long drive with a 17-yard score to break open what was a one-point game at the half. He then had a highlight-reel play just before the end of the third, taking a screen pass 75 yards to the house as the Sycamores scored 21 unanswered points in the period.
 
Lawrence's final touchdown came inside the final minute, punching in from four yards out to ice any hopes of a comeback from the visitors.
 
The 100-yard rushing game was the fourth of Lawrence's career, and his first since Nov. 2, 2024 against North Dakota. It was also his second career game with more than 200 yards of offense and three touchdowns, having also accomplished the feat at Murray State on Sept. 30, 2023.
 
The Hannig Construction Indiana State Student-Athlete of the Week will be announced every week throughout the 2025-26 athletic season.
