Sycamores close regular season Saturday afternoon

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. Indiana State plays its final game of the 2024-25 regular season Saturday afternoon when it faces Murray State for a 2 p.m. tip inside Hulman Center.

Saturday's game will be carried on ESPN+, with Brendan King (play-by-play) and Adrian Madrid (analyst) on the call. John Sherman will also have the radio call on WVIG-FM/105.5 The Legend.

Last Time Out
Indiana State jumped out to a hot start Thursday night inside Hulman Center. That spark soon faded, though, as Belmont exploded for 57 second-half points in a 90-69 setback for the Sycamores.

Keslyn Secrist led all players with 22 points, her fifth 20-point game this season, and also added five rebounds. Savannah White had 13 points and seven boards, while Deja Jones finished with 11 points and eight assists.

Indiana State hit eight of its first 13 shots and led by as many as eight midway through the first quarter, but Belmont closed on an 11-0 run to take a three-point lead after one quarter. After a low-scoring second quarter saw the teams go to the intermission separated by three points, Belmont broke things open with an 11-2 run in the third quarter and never looked back. The Bruins put up a 28-point third quarter and followed with a 29-point fourth quarter to cruise past the Sycamores.

Senior Sendoff
This weekend's games mark the last for Indiana State in Terre Haute this season, and the Sycamores have five individuals making their final appearances in the Blue and White at Hulman Center.

Prior to Saturday's game against Murray State, the Sycamores will recognize guards Semie Brar and Deja Jones, forward Leah Yarbrough, and graduate assistants Jada Haines and Donald Metoyer Jr. for their contributions to the program during their time in Terre Haute.

Jones, Yarbrough and Metoyer Jr. have been with the program since the 2023-24 season, while Brar and Haines both joined for the 2024-25 campaign.

Early Efficiency
Indiana State jumped out to a strong start from the field in its most recent game against Belmont. The Sycamores hit eight of their first 13 shots against the Bruins, including four of their first five 3-point attempts, in building an early eight-point lead against one of the top teams in the MVC.

Keslyn Secrist, Bella Finnegan and Savannah White all had five-plus points in the opening frame, with that trio going 8-for-13 from the field in the first quarter.

As a team, Indiana State shot 50 percent from behind the arc in the first 10 minutes. The Sycamores also converted their three offensive rebounds in the quarter into eight second chance points.

20-Somethings
Indiana State guards Bella Finnegan and Keslyn Secrist have five 20-point games apiece this season, with both Sycamore guards having four 20-point games against conference opposition. Secrist had the most recent 20-point game with her 22-point performance against Belmont.

Secrist has scored 20-plus points in two of the last three games for Indiana State, including a career-high 24 at Drake. Finnegan had a stretch of three 20-point outings in a six-game span in February, which included a 30-point game against Southern Illinois.

Climbing The Charts
Indiana State forward Savannah White already ranks among the best shot blockers in program history, with the junior post player entering the final game of the regular season with 46 blocks in the 2024-25 campaign.

White's 46 blocks this season rank sixth for a single season in program history, while her 69 career blocks are tied for ninth in program history. White is the first Sycamore to crack the program single-season and career top-10 for blocks since the 2017-18 campaign.

Record-Setting Show
Sycamore guard Bella Finnegan's 30-point game against Southern Illinois on Feb. 9 was the 44th 30-point game in program history and featured a program single-game record eight 3-pointers.

Finnegan's eight threes against the Salukis are the most by an MVC player in a conference game this season, and also represented the second-most by a Valley athlete in any game during the 2024-25 campaign.

Murray State At A Glance
Murray State enters Saturday's game at 21-7 overall and 15-4 in conference play. The Racers have won six straight games and can clinch a share of the MVC regular season title with a win.

Katelyn Young leads a high-powered Racer offense with 21.7 points per game, with Halli Poock (16.9), Haven Ford (15.3) and Ava Learn (13.8) all averaging double-figures for a Murray State team averaging more than 86 points per game. Learn leads the team with 9.7 rebounds per game, while Poock and Ford are both averaging more than four assists per game. Ford also averages more than two steals per game.

Rechelle Turner is in her eighth season as head coach at Murray State and owns a 132-108 record at her alma mater. Turner is Murray State's all-time wins leader.

Series History Against Murray State
Indiana State is 3-7 all-time against Murray State, though the Sycamores and Racers have split the four previous meetings in Terre Haute.

Murray State has won the last three meetings between the teams, with Indiana State's last win in the series coming in a season sweep during the 2022-23 season.

Last Meeting Against Murray State (Jan. 24, 2025)
Deja Jones scored a career-high 21 points while Indiana State shot 50 percent from the field, but Murray State's fast-paced offense proved too much for the Trees in a 97-71 loss inside the CFSB Center.

Jones was 8-for-14 from the field and also added six rebounds for the Blue and White. Bella Finnegan and Savannah White added 10 points apiece for the Trees, while Mia Simpson had eight points and seven rebounds.

Jones had 10 in the first quarter as the Sycamores went back-and-forth in an up-tempo start to the game. Indiana State had a five-point lead midway through the second quarter, but Murray State closed the half on a 19-4 run and never looked back. The Sycamores shot the ball well throughout the game, but the Racers had an answer for every Indiana State basket as the Trees couldn't keep pace with the home side's 3-point barrage and strong post presence.

Up Next
Indiana State turns its attention to the MVC Tournament, where the Sycamores will play in the opening round Thursday as either the No. 10, 11 or 12 seed.
