Where Are They Now: Cierra Carey (Campbell)

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State swimming & diving continues their "Where Are They Now" series highlighting and showcasing their alumni as we reconnect with 2020 graduate Cierra Carey (Campbell).

What years did you attend Indiana State?
2016-2020

What was your degree(s) in at Indiana State?
BS in textiles apparel or merchandising and a minor in business administration

Where are you currently now and what are you doing (career-wise)?
I am currently in central Texas. My husband is in the military so we move around frequently. Home for us is Anchorage, Alaska and we hope to be there permanently soonish. I am a stay-at-home mom to my 2.5 years old daughter and almost 8 months old son.

How did your time at Indiana State prepare you for your current career path?
My time at Indiana State instilled in abundance of resilience, which I lean on often as a military spouse & as a mom to two young kids.

How did your time on the Indiana State swimming and diving team impact your time at Indiana State?
Made lifelong friends through the team. It was just fun doing life/ college with them.

What was it about Indiana State that made you want to attend the University and participate with the swimming and diving program?
It was a leap of faith. It was a brand-new program with no team yet. I was the first verbal commitment & had yet to even go on my official visit. I trusted my gut, and I am glad I did. The school seemed like the right size for me & they had the program I was interested in studying.

What are the things you miss most about being with the team?
I miss the community. Built in friends, always someone to do something with. That is something I think is so special about college athletics, you are surround by peers experiencing the same thing you are. Classes, practices, navigating being away from home & on your own for the first time, etc. A shared experience.

What were some of your favorite memories with the team?
I really loved the training trip to Florida my senior year! And overall, there is so many small memories that made a lasting impression on me. Inside jokes, mishaps, little moments, etc.

What advice would you have for the current team member as they continue to progress through college and look ahead to the future?
Just to cherish it, sometimes the days are slow, but the weeks/ months fly by. Being a D1 student athlete is such a unique opportunity that not a lot of people get to experience. It will help shape adult you!

Have you been able to keep in touch with former teammates, coaches - and if so, when's the last time you've seen/spoke with them?
Yes! I haven't been able to see anyone in person for a few years, but we update each other through texts & calls. Cheering for each other from afar but excited for a reunion hopefully sometime soon.

What does the future hold for you moving forward?
I don't know but I can't wait to see. Some combination of mom-ing, homemaking, traveling, exploring, and just living.

Fun fact:
My son, Silas, was born on the night ISU won conference this past season (March 1st!). He wanted to celebrate earth side.
