Sycamores close out road trip at Marshall Sunday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. –   Indiana State closes out the four game road trip this weekend as the Sycamores head to Huntington, W.Va. and the Hoops Family Field to take on Marshall on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff between the Sycamores and The Herd is set for 1 p.m. ET and will be carried live on ESPN+.

The Sycamores and The Herd have met twice since 2015, where Marshall leads 1-0-1. Both contests have taken place at Memorial Stadium, where the Sycamores fell 2-0 in 2015 and tied 1-1 in 2023.

Indiana State started the 2024 season off with a three game winning streak at Memorial Stadium before they fell on a road opening match at UT Martin with a score of 2-1. ISU won their matchup on the road at SEMO, 3-0 over the Redhawks and tied 1-1 in their latest matchup against Bellarmine. The Sycamores (4-1-1) lead the Missouri Valley Conference in rankings after six games of play.

The Sycamores have recorded 21 goals this season, in six games of play (7th most in the NCAA).

Sycamore Standouts:

Mackenzie Kent continues to lead the Sycamores and the Missouri Valley Conference offensively as she is tied for first in goals scored (4) and tied for second in points (8). Kent led ISU's efforts throughout the contest on Thursday evening, where she had five shots, with two on target in the 1-1 draw against Bellarmine.

Maddie Alexander continues to set the tone for Indiana State's defense, where she has totaled 495 minutes between the pipe, allowing only three goals scored on her this season in 66 shots faced. Alexander has 30 saves this season (3rd in MVC), as she leads the Valley with a .909% save percentage.

Wimberley Wright continues to be a play maker for the Sycamores, where she leads ISU and the MVC for the third week in a row in assists (5), while recording seven points in the 2024 season.

Alex Lehnert picked up her third collegiate goal in the 1-1 draw against Bellarmine on Thursday evening.

Lehrnet's equalizer goal came in the 72nd minute of the contest after she picked up the loose ball off a header by Fairfax, and sent the ball off the finger tips of Bellarmine's goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

Alexa Mackey leads the Sycamores in shot attempts (14) with nine on target, recording a .643 shot on goal percentage. Mackey has picked up three goals this season in the home opening match, where she recorded her first collegiate hat trick and only the second ever in ISU school history.

Brooklyn Woods has been a constant threat offensively this season, totaling 464 minutes in six games of play. Woods has found the back of the net two times this season and recorded 12 shot attempts for the Sycamores, eight on goal.

Scouting Marshall:
Marshall enters Sunday's contest with a 1-3-1 record where they lost their most recent matchup to Ohio University 2-0. The Herd's solo win this season was against Belmont, where they won 1-0 in their second home game of the season.

Rafa Simoes enters his first season at the helm for Marshall, as he was hired in December of 2023. Simoes is the fifth head coach in Marshall Women's Soccer history.

Marshall records two goals overall in the 2024 season, which come from Angel Fowler and Ebony Leckey. Alexis Wolgemuth has 25 saves this season, where she has allowed five goals scored in 66 shots faced.
