TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State fell to the UIC in the first round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, 2-1.
Tori Angelo put the Sycamores on the board early in the second half before the Flames responded with two goals to take the win. Despite a strong offensive effort that resulted in eight shots on goal, Indiana State was unable to find the equalizer, bringing their season to a close.
Indiana State and UIC played a tight first half, with both defenses holding firm. The Sycamores limited UIC to just one shot while recording seven of their own.
Anna Chor tallied the first shot on goal in the 20
th minute, saved by a UIC team stop, while
Alex Lehnert tested the Flames' goalkeeper late in the first half.
Angelo broke through at 53:28, finding the bottom left corner off assists from
Kaitlynn Long and
Kaylin Klutcharch to give Indiana State a 1-0 lead. UIC quickly answered, as Katelyn Nardulli tied the match in the 63:34 minute, followed by a header from Hannah Gryzik off a corner kick by Kaysey Castro at 68:19 minutes of play. The Sycamores refused to back down and continued to press with eight second-half shots, but UIC's defense held strong to secure the 2-1 victory.
