TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State returns to the road this weekend as the Sycamores begin a three-game road trip starting on Sunday afternoon at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Kickoff between the Sycamores and the Cougars is set for 3 p.m. ET at Ralph Korte Stadium and will be streamed on ESPN+.
The Sycamores and the Cougars will meet for the 11th time on Sunday afternoon, as the overall series is tied 5-5 between the two teams. ISU and SIUE have met ten times since 2008, where the Sycamores won the most recent matchup in 2023 at Memorial Stadium, with a score of 2-1.
The Sycamores (4-2-2) are coming off their second draw of the 2024 season as ISU battled visiting EIU to a scoreless tie at Memorial Stadium on Thursday night. Indiana State outshot Eastern Illinois 18-7 throughout the contest, where ISU held the 8-1 edge on corner kicks.
Sycamore Standouts:
The Sycamore defense posted its fourth clean sheet at Memorial Stadium in the contest on Thursday evening, which records their fifth overall in the 2024 season.
Alexander continues to pace the Sycamores with 38 (2nd in MVC) saves while starting all eight matches on the year. Alexander stopped both EIU shots on target in posting the Sycamores fifth shutout of the 2024 season on Thursday evening. The Battle Creek, Mich. native, continues to lead the MVC in save percentages (.905) as she has only allowed four goals scored all season.
ISU's offense continues to fight as the Sycamores posted double-digit shots for the seventh match in the 2024 season. Indiana State leads the MVC in most goals scored (21), assists (17), points (59), goals-average-against (4), shutouts (5), and corners (55).
The Sycamores have scores 21 goals this season in eight games of play paced by Mackenzie Kent's four on the year (tied for first in MVC), while Alex Lehnert and Alexa Mackey have both found the back of the net three times. Kent and Mackey each record 17 shots this season, with ten on target.
Wimberley Wright has been a consistent leader for the Sycamores and the MVC in assists throughout the 2024 season where she records five. The Denton, Texas native has totaled 564 minutes of play this season, where she has seven points.
Brooklyn Woods has seen the most playing time in the Sycamore lineup (644) behind goalkeeper Alexander (674). Woods has 13 shots on the year with two goals as she has been serving as ISU's primary on free kicks and corner attempts.
Scouting SIUE:
The Cougars enter Thursday's contest with an overall record of 1-3-2, with their solo win coming against Chicago State in their home opening match, with a score of 6-1.
Derek Burton enters his 17th season as head coach of the SIUE women's soccer program. Burton has an overall record of 125-118-42 as the Cougars' head coach.
Savannah DeFini leads the Panthers offensively where she records three goals scored in the 2024 season. The Gretna, Nebraska native earned Prairie Farms Cougar of the Week honors after scoring her first career hat trick during SIUE's 6-1 home opener against Chicago State. DeFini has eight points and two assists where she has a 0.625 shot on goal percentage.
