TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State Director of Athletics Nathan Christensen announced the promotion of Seth Montgomery to Senior Associate Athletic Director for Communications and Digital Content, annouced on Thursday.
Montgomery previously had the title of Associate Athletic Director for Communications and Digital Content after coming to Indiana State in August 2021.
"Seth has proven to be an asset to Indiana State Athletics," said Christensen. "The Sycamore brand is strong because of the efforts of his leadership within the areas he oversees. Seth is well deserving of this promotion, and with his continued leadership I look forward to the future."
Montgomery will continue to serve as the head of the athletic communications staff overseeing the overall management, operations and strategies within the department's athletic communications (including media relations, video and broadcast communications, and digital, new and social media). Montgomery also oversees the coverage of in-game statistics and ensures statistical records are maintained.
Additionally, Montgomery handles the day-to-day communication efforts of the Indiana State football, swimming & diving, baseball, and spirit squad programs, as well as serving as the primary athletic communications liaison with local and national media.
"It's an honor to work with a great staff in the Indiana State Athletic Communications office as we continue our primary focus of recognizing the incredible achievements of our student-athletes," Montgomery said. "I want to thank Nathan (Christensen) for his leadership and trust, as well as my staff for their tireless efforts and support as we continue to place our focus on providing a rewarding student-athlete experience."
Highlights during his time at Indiana State include serving as the primary media contact for Indiana State baseball's back-to-back postseason runs. The 2024 Sycamore baseball team finished with a record of 44-15 and were selected to the 2024 Lexington Regional, advancing to the championship game against Kentucky. This marked just the third time in program history Indiana State University advanced to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments.
Responsible for the season-long tracking and nominations, Montgomery saw this unit achieve the following: 10 players named to the MVC All-Conference teams, four to the All-Defensive team, five on the ABCA/Rawlings All-Midwest Region Teams, an ABCA Gold Glove finalist, three MLB draftees, and seven total professional signees.
He was the primary contact of Sycamore baseball's run to the 2023 Fort Worth Super Regional which featured over three million interactions to the team's accounts through video, graphics and social media postings. His promotion efforts led to Connor Fenlong earning four All-American nods, while Grant Magill (catcher) received the second Gold Glove in program history.
In addition to his work with baseball, he's been successful at promoting All-American accolades and recognition for multiple football players including Geoffrey Brown (2021 Phil Steele Freshman All-American), Jude McCoskey (2023 Phil Steele Freshman All-American), and Garret Ollendieck (2024 Preseason Phil Steele All-American).
His oversight of the Sycamore communication and digital content efforts in the 2022-23 season led to the Indiana State Athletic Communications office being recognized as the Missouri Valley Conference's SID Staff of the Year as honored by the conference office.
During his tenure at Indiana State, the Sycamore social media platforms have seen increased growth across the board with multiple teams posting 25-30% gains in followers, interactions, and shares.
Montgomery enters his 15th season working in collegiate athletics and his fourth at Indiana State. Prior to Indiana State University, Montgomery spent time as the Associate Athletic Director for Communication/Public Relations at Charleston Southern University (2012-21) and the Athletic Media Relations Director at Brevard College (2008-12).
