D1Baseball – Indiana State's
Luis Hernandez was named among the top players at his position by D1Baseball as the organization started to announce their Week 12 Positional Rankings.
Hernandez came in as the No. 18 first baseman in the NCAA Division I moving up from his original ranking of No. 46 announced after Week 6 of the 2024 season.
The Gurabo, Puerto Rico native has been a mainstay in the middle of the Indiana State lineup this year entering the weekend with a .371 batting average with a .427 on-base and .667 slugging percentage on the season. He leads the Sycamores with 69 total hits and 59 RBIs, while sitting second on the team with 15 home runs and fourth with 10 doubles.
Hernandez boasts a career-best 24-game hitting streak and 26-game on-base streak accomplished earlier this season and leads the Sycamores with 20 multi-hit games and 19 multi-RBI contests. He's also posted a pair of multi-homer games on the year coming against both Xavier (Mar. 15) and this past weekend against Belmont (May 4).
Hernandez was the lone first baseman in the Missouri Valley to be named to the list and currently sits in the top-10 in the conference in multiple hitting categories including batting average (3rd), slugging percentage (5th), hits (2nd), RBI (1st), and home runs (8th).
Indiana State closes out their six-game home stand this weekend as the Sycamores welcome Evansville to Bob Warn Field for a three-game series over May 10-12. First pitch in Friday's opener is set for 4:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU and 105.5 The Legend.
