Indiana State secures No. 1 seed for MVC Tournament; First game on Friday

ST. LOUIS - Indiana State men's basketball is the No. 1 seed in the 2024 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, announced by the league office Monday morning.

Indiana State earned the No. 1 seed with a 17-3 MVC record (26-5 overall). The Sycamores are a full game ahead of the Bulldogs from Drake University, who landed at the No. 2 spot. The top four is rounded out by Bradley (13-7 MVC) and Northern Iowa (12-8 MVC). The top four seeds earn a bye through the first round. The tournament champion earns an automatic bid to the Big Dance - the NCAA Tournament.

The Sycamores open up the MVC Tournament on Friday at 1 p.m. ET/12 p.m. CT versus the winner of No. 8 Murray State and No. 9 Missouri State.

For fans planning to make the trip to St. Louis, join the Indiana State University Alumni Association and Sycamore Athletics for a Pregame Event at the team hotel in the Promenade Ballroom from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. (CT) prior to the 12:00 p.m. Sycamore Basketball game. Parking at the hotel is extremely limited; there are surface lots and parking garages available in the area.

The 2022-23 Postseason
Last season, ISU was the No. 5 seed headed into the tournament. It played the No. 12 seed Evansville in the first round, coming out on top 97-58. On day two, the Sycamores narrowly escaped Belmont in a high-scoring affair, winning 94-91. ISU had its tournament run ended by Bradley in the Semifinals, falling 71-70. The 2022-23 Sycamores' season was not quite finished, accepting an invitation into the College Basketball Invitation (CBI), where it earned the No. 1 seed in the Dayton Beach tournament. This was ISU's first postseason appearance since 2014.

In the CBI, No. 1 Indiana State opened with #16 USC Update and won 67-62, the first postseason win since 2001. The next game ended the season for good, as ISU fell to No. 8 Eastern Kentucky 89-88.

Overall in postseason play, ISU basketball is 28-38 with a 21-29 record on a neutral floor.
