Box Score PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Indiana State continued its season-opening winning streak with its second consecutive extra-inning walk-off win as the Sycamores topped Marshall on Saturday afternoon in 10 innings, 5-4.
Marshall (1-5) took the 4-3 lead in the top of the 10th inning as Elijah Vogelsong connected on a leadoff pinch-hit home run off ISU reliever
Zach Davidson (1-0) to give the Thundering Herd the late lead.
The Sycamores (6-0) responded in the bottom of the inning with
Luis Hernandez scoring on an error by the Marshall left fielder to tie the game up at 4-4. Indiana State had runners on the corners with one out following the error against Marshall reliever Nick Jodway (0-1), before
Parker Stinson was intentionally walked to set up a force out at home.
Grant Magill battled through a 1-2 count before driving the game-winning RBI single to centerfield scoring
Adam Pottinger and setting off a celebration at first base as the Sycamores continued their longest winning streak to start a season since the 2019 season.
Jacob Pruitt posted his second consecutive strong start on the mound as the sophomore right-hander struck out the first five batters he faced and 11 overall in a 5.2-inning stint on the mound. He limited Marshall to just four hits and two runs (one earned) while walking one, before turning the ball over to Davidson in the sixth. Davidson went the rest of the way allowing three hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out five over the final 4.1 innings on the mound.
Parker Stinson homered and drove in two runs to highlight the Sycamore offense, while Stinson, Pottinger, and Magill all posted multi-hit contests on the day.
Randal Diaz was also hit by two pitches to keep his 26-game on-base streak intact through Saturday.
Owen Ayers homered and drove in two runs to highlight the Marshall offense on the afternoon.
Marshall starter Cole Agemy went 5.0 innings allowing three hits and two runs, while Griffin Miller, Nicolas Weyrich, and Jodway went the final 4.1 innings in the loss.
How They Scored
- Jack Firestone's infield single scored Caden Kaiser as Marshall took advantage of an ISU error to take the early 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth.
- Parker Stinson put the Sycamores on the board in the bottom of the fifth as the senior outfielder connected on a two-run home run over the right field wall scoring Henry Brown to put ISU ahead 2-1.
- Owen Ayers connected on a solo home run for the Thundering Herd to make it a 2-2 ballgame in the top of the sixth.
- Dominic Listi swung the advantage back to Indiana State in the bottom of the seventh with a bases-loaded RBI sacrifice fly to right center scoring Stinson and giving the Sycamores the 3-2 lead.
- Ayers tied up the game at 3-3 in the top of the eighth with an RBI single to left field as Marshall took advantage of another ISU error to score Cam Harthan.
- Elijah Vogelsong connected on a leadoff pinch-hit home run in the top of the 10th to give Marshall the first lead in extra innings.
- The Sycamores rallied back in the bottom of the 10th with Henry Brown's fly ball dropped by the Marshall left fielder scoring Luis Hernandez to tie the game, before Grant Magill's RBI single scored Adam Pottinger to walk-off the 5-4 win.

- Dominic Listi continued his hot streak to start the 2024 season as the redshirt senior outfielder reached base for the sixth consecutive game to start his ISU career.
