Parsons named GoGo Squeez ISU Student-Athlete of the Week

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State women's swimming and diving's Claire Parsons was named this week's GoGo Squeez ISU Student-Athlete of the Week as announced by the athletic department on Monday afternoon.

Parsons earned NCAA B Cut status for the first time in her collegiate career and led the Sycamores to arguably one of the best weekends in program history at the Miami Invitational. Indiana State posted 14 school records and won seven events over the three-day weekend at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.

Parsons was responsible for three of the records set establishing new marks in the 500-yard, 1000-yard, and 1650-yard Freestyle events, while also qualifying for the A-Finals in both the 200-yard Freestyle and 200-yard Backstroke. She was also on the event-winning 800-yard Freestyle Relay team that topped the field by nearly nine full seconds.

The Terre Haute native opened the weekend setting the Sycamores' new mark in the 500-yard prelims touching the wall in 4:49.13, before teammate Erin Cummins broke it later on in the evening to continue the back-and-forth between the duo dating back to last season.

Parsons followed up advancing to the A-Finals in the 200-yard Freestyle and finished fourth overall in the field in 1:49.30. She swam the second leg of the team's 800-yard Freestyle Relay going in 1:49.55 as the team won the event in 7:20.22.

The sophomore continued to shine in her signature event, the 1650-yard Freestyle, where she broke the school's record in both the 1000-yard Free with her split of 9:57.49, while her time in the 1650 of 16:31.28 won the event by 16 seconds and was inside the NCAA B Cut.

She wrapped up the weekend leading the Sycamores in the A-Finals in the 200-yard Backstroke and was the lead leg in the C-Team's eighth-place finish in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay.

The GoGo Squeez ISU Student-Athlete of the Week will be announced every Monday afternoon throughout the 2024-25 athletic season.
