Homestand continues as Sycamores welcome Northern Iowa

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. –  Indiana State remains at home this weekend as the Sycamores prepare for another MVC matchup at Memorial Stadium with ISU taking on Northern Iowa on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff between the Sycamores and the Panthers is set for 1 p.m. ET with the game set to be carried live on ESPN+.

The Sycamores continue to remain undefeated at Memorial Stadium, as they look to keep the streak alive on Sunday against Northern Iowa. This matchup will serve as the 27th contest between the Sycamores and the Panthers, as Indiana State leads the all time series 12-10-4. The Sycamores lost the most recent matchup in Cedar Falls last year with a score of 2-0 at the UNI Soccer Field.

Indiana State is currently ranked fourth in the MVC ahead of Sunday's matchup, where they have scored 26 goals this season. Thirteen Sycamores have scored during the 2024 season, contributing to a total of 183 shots, with 102 of those on goal. ISU has also tallied 20 assists and recorded 87 saves defensively.

Sycamore Standouts:
Indiana State achieved its second conference win of the 2024 season with a 2-0 victory over Drake, improving their overall record to 7-3-3. The match featured offensive contributions from Grace Quinn and Brooklyn Woods, who each scored a goal. Additionally, Maddie Alexander delivered a career-high 16 saves, supported by a solid defensive effort that made crucial stops throughout the match on Thursday evening.

Although the Sycamores were heavily outshot with the Bulldogs registering 24 attempts to Indiana State's 6, the Sycamores took advantage of their chances when Quinn & Woods each found the back of the net. Drake had 17 shots on goal, while Indiana State recorded three, and the Bulldogs also dominated corner kicks, earning 10 to Indiana State's two.

Maddie Alexander is now tied for fourth in program history for single-game saves after picking up 16 in the victory over Drake on Thursday evening. Alexander continues to lead the Missouri Valley as she has 82 saves, seven shutouts, a 92.1% save percentage, while only allowing seven goals this season.

Brooklyn Woods has logged the second-most minutes in the Sycamores lineup this season, with 1,094 minutes, just behind Alexander's 1,124. Woods has served as ISU's primary on corner attempts, contributing three goals along the way.

Lehnert and Kent continue to pace the ISU offense with four goals each, ranking 5th in the MVC, while Mackey and Woods are close behind with three goals each. Kent has recorded 25 shot attempts for Indiana State (6th in the MVC) while Mackey has 24 attempts. Lehnert has accumulated a total of 10 points for the Sycamores, also ranking 6th in the conference.

Scouting Northern Iowa:
Bruce Erickson is in his eighth season as the Panthers head women's soccer coach. The Panthers were selected fourth in the MVC pre season poll after Erickson's team recorded the second-highest number of wins in program history, finishing with a 13-5-1 record in 2023. They also achieved the first unbeaten home record (5-0) and the first unbeaten non-conference schedule (7-0-1) in the team's history.

Senior Lauren Heinsch set the program's all-time scoring record early this season, while achieving the highest number of career starts as a Panther. Olivia Knoepfle leads the team offensively, recording six goals and 14 points.

UNI goalkeeper Caitlin Richards made history for the Panther defense on Thursday night by achieving her program record 19th career shutout victory. This season, Richards has recorded 35 saves while allowing 19 goals.
