ST. LOUIS – Indiana State's Alex Lehnert was named the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Soccer Freshman of the Week as announced by the conference office on Tuesday morning.
Alex Lehnert played a crucial role in helping Indiana State secure a 2-2 draw against Evansville on senior day.
The freshman scored two late goals in the second half, keeping the Sycamores undefeated at home with one regular-season game left.
The Sycamores entered the second half trailing Evansville 2-0, as ISU recorded just three shot attempts in the first 45 minutes of play.
Both of her goals were solo efforts. In the 72nd minute, she cut the Purple Aces' lead in half with a strike from 25 yards out, hitting the upper left corner of the net.
Lehnert equalized in the 86th minute, sending her sixth goal of the season over the goalkeeper's head into the upper right corner, tying the game with under four minutes remaining.
The New Lenox, Ill. native is now tied for the team lead with six goals, ranking her second in the conference and tied for third in the MVC with 15 points.
The freshman's weekly honor is the second of her career and the fourth MVC nomination for Indiana State women's soccer in the 2024 season.
Her first accolade came after her performance in the initial MVC matchup against Valparaiso on September 19, where she scored the game-winning goal.
