Sycamores to host Drake on Thursday evening

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State women's soccer will welcome the Bulldogs of Drake to Memorial Stadium on Thursday evening. The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m. ET and will be streamed lived on ESPN+. 

The Sycamores saw their four-match unbeaten streak come to an end on Sunday with a 2-0 loss against Missouri State where the Bears scored two early first-half goals to defeat ISU at Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium.

ISU (6-3-3, 1-1-1) struggled to find opportunities against the Bears (5-4-3, 3-0-1) on Sunday as the Sycamores were outshot 19-7, including 13-4 in the first 45 minutes of play. 

Drake leads the overall series 16-6-3 over Indiana State as the Bulldogs won the most recent matchup in September of last season with a score of 2-0. 

Sycamore Standouts: 
Maddie Alexander picked up two saves last week in the 1-1 draw against Southern Illinois to reach a 300 career save mark, making her only the fourth Sycamore in program history to reach this milestone. Alexander recorded a season-high 12 saves in the loss against Missouri State on Sunday afternoon. The Battle Creek, Mich. native has posted 66 over the 2024 season in 12 matches to lead the Sycamore defense on the year.

Wimberley Wright has been a consistent offensive facilitator for the Sycamores this season. She has led the conference in assists (5) since week one when she picked up four in two games. The Denton, Texas native connected on her second goal of the 2024 season against Southern Illinois on Thursday to lead the Sycamores to a 1-1 draw. 

As a team, ISU has scored 24 goals on 20 assists this season, averaging two goals per game with 14.8 shots a game. On the defensive side, the Sycamores have recorded seven shutouts this season, while only allowing seven goals in 12 total matches. They are currently holding their opponents to 12.6 shots a game with an goals scored average of 0.58.

Freshman forward Alex Lehnert's offensive performances has been a key asset for the Sycamores this year as she leads the team with 10 points, four goals with a .636 shots on goal percentage. She has started in eight matches this season with 702 minutes played on the pitch.  

The Sycamore offense has been led at the top by seniors Mackenzie Kent and Alexa Mackey as the duo have provided a solid offensive punch for Indiana State. Mackey leads ISU with 24 shots on the season with 14 on target and three goals, while Kent has connected on four goals, while recording 23 shot attempts, 14 on target. 

Scouting Drake: 
The Bulldogs enter Thursday's contest with an overall record of (3-5-4, 2-1) following Sunday's 3-0 victory against the  Redbirds of Illinois State. Drake defeated Valparaiso with a score of 2-1, while falling to Missouri State in the MVC opening match 3-1. 

Eve Blakely is Drake's primary offensive threat with four goals and ten points on the season in leading a Bulldog offense that has featured eight players scoring on the year. 
 
Ford has started and played in all 12 matches for Drake this season surrendering 19 goals, while posting 39 saves. She's posted a 0.672 save percentage and a 1.74 goals against average in 2024.

The Sycamores will host UNI on Sunday, October 6 with kickoff set for 1 p.m. ET at Memorial Stadium. This game will serve as the Indiana State Dance Marathon Game to raise money for Riley Children's Hospital and bring awareness to childhood cancer.
