NORMAL, Ill. – Indiana State sits tied for 12th overall through the first 36 holes of the Illinois State Redbird Invitational as the Sycamores took on the field on the opening day at the Weibring Golf Course.
The Sycamores posted a two-round 612 (+36) through the first 36 holes to sit tied with Illinois Wesleyan in their first action of the 2023 fall schedule.
Kristen Hobbs (+6) is the team's leader through first two rounds carding a 76-74 to open competition.
"We're about in the position I felt we would be," head coach
Greg Towne said. "We teased a decent start to the first round, but lost concentration in the second. Iyoun (Chew) gave us a boost with a couple of good scores and Kristen (Hobbs) got it around pretty well with her 'B' game today. We're looking for improvement tomorrow on the course."
Hobbs sits tied for 28th overall in the field through the first 36 holes as the senior posted three birdies and her first eagle of the season to highlight her opening rounds on the course.
Chew (+8) is tied for 42nd overall in the field after turning a two-round score 152 (74-78). The senior athlete posted a pair of birdies over the first day on her way to tying for the lowest round of the day for the Sycamores in the opening round following her 74.
Morrow (+9) sits one stroke behind her teammate sitting tied for 51st in the field following her 153 (74-79) over the two rounds. The senior tied for ISU's lowest round of the day in the opening round 74. She added four birdies on the afternoon to lead the team in the category.
LeMaire (+15) is tied for 72nd overall in the field following her two-round 77-82 on the course. The sophomore posted a trio of birdies in her opening round on the third, 15th, and 18th holes, while her second birdie on the 18th hole highlighted her second round of the day.
Baker (+19) improved three strokes off her first-round total to sit tied for 84th overall in the field through two rounds. The sophomore birdied the 18th hole in the second round to highlight her two-round score 83-80 on the day.
Illinois State (+1), Bradley (+2), and South Dakota State (+6) are the top three teams in the standings through the first day. Bradley's Grace Aromando (-10) is the tournament leader, while Illinois State's Jinyoung Yun (-7) sits three strokes back from the individual lead.
Indiana State closes out the final round of the Illinois State Redbird Invitational tomorrow morning at the Weibring Golf Club. The golfers are on the course starting at 9:30 a.m. ET.
