ST. LOUIS –Indiana State outside hitter Kira Holland was named the MVC Freshman of the Week for the fifth straight week Monday afternoon after recording double-doubles in each of the Sycamores' last two matches.
 
Holland set single-game career-highs in both kills and digs over the weekend while averaging 4.25 kills and 3.75 digs per set in eight sets played. She opened her weekend with a 21-kill, 11-dig performance against Southern Illinois which established a new career-best mark for kills in a match. Holland followed that with 13 kills and a career-best 19 digs against Missouri State for her seventh double-double of the season. She also added two block assists against Southern Illinois, and added a block assist, an assist and an ace against Missouri State.
 
Holland leads all freshmen in conference play with 3.85 kills per set, while her 2.98 digs per set are second among MVC freshmen. She ranks fifth in the MVC in kills and 17th in digs in conference matches. Overall, she ranks sixth in kills (3.52 per set) and 20th in digs (2.72 per set) in the conference, while her 3.52 kills per set are 12th among all freshmen in Division I.
 
The weekly honor is the fifth of Holland's career and the sixth MVC Freshman of the Week honor for a Sycamore this season after Macy Lengacher previously earned the honor during the opening weekend of play. Holland is first in the conference to earn a weekly honor in four consecutive weeks this season, and joins Missouri State's Daniele Messa in 2016 as the only players in conference history to be named MVC Freshman of the Week in five straight weeks. She is just the seventh player in MVC history to earn five or more MVC Freshman of the Week honors.
 
Indiana State's six MVC Freshman of the Week honors are the most among MVC schools this season and accounts for more than half of the MVC Freshman of the Week honors in 2023, while this season marks the most MVC weekly honorees for the Sycamores in program history. Holland's five MVC weekly honors are the most for a Sycamore athlete in program history.
 
Holland and the Sycamores play their final road matches of the season Friday and Saturday at Northern Iowa and Drake, respectively.
