Indiana State hosts Illinois State on Senior Day at Memorial Stadium

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State hosts their 2023 Senior Day festivities on Sunday afternoon as the Sycamores host Illinois State at Memorial Stadium as ISU heads into its final three matches of the regular season. Kickoff between the Sycamores and the Redbirds is set for 1 p.m. ET with the match set to be streamed on ESPN+.
 
The Sycamores will recognize 2023 seniors Maddie Alexander, Katie Yankey, Carly Hudnall, Carlie Jensen, Isabella Hunter, Audrey Stephens, Kloe Pettigrew, and Sasha Thompson in a pregame ceremony set to start on the field at 12:40 p.m.
 
Indiana State (1-6-8, 0-4-3) enters the match coming off a tough 1-0 home loss to Missouri State on Thursday afternoon. The Sycamores fired their first shot 69 seconds into the match and added late opportunities, but were unable to cash in the defeat to the Bears.
 
Mackenzie Kent fired the first shot of the game 69 seconds into the match as Indiana State come out on the attack early. ISU added chances by Anna Chor and Emma Elliott in the second half with Elliott's offering in the 89th minute corralled by MSU keeper Camielle Day in front of the net to keep the Bears' shutout intact.
 
The Sycamores combined for five shots in the contest with Elliott and Chor's attempts the lone on target. Alexa Mackey, Maddie Helling, and Kent also fired shots in the contest.
 
Maddie Alexander finished with eight saves on 19 Missouri State shots in the contest. The Sycamore goalkeeper has 66 saves in 2023 and 232 on her career. She sits three behind Sycamore alum Emily Lahay (235, 4th) for fifth all-time with three matches remaining on the year.
 
Indiana State is looking to crack the scoreboard this week against the Illinois State defense as the Sycamores attempt to end a seven-match scoreless streak. The Redbirds have surrendered 24 goals in the 2023 season including three this past Thursday against Drake. Illinois State (3-6-4, 1-3-3) sits just ahead of the Sycamores in the league standings with both teams attempting to maneuver their way into the postseason rankings.
 
The Sycamores have scored six goals over the 2023 season paced by Maddie Helling's two on the year, while Lina Fasquelle, Mackenzie Kent, Chloe Tesny, and Adelaide Wolfe have all found the back of the net. Kent continues to lead the Sycamores with 26 shots and 13 shots on goal in 2023, while Alexa Mackey has 13 shots with nine on target on the year.
 
Alexander continues to pace the Sycamores with 66 saves while starting all 15 matches on the year. The senior's 66 saves are the second-most in a single season over her career (81, 2021), while her 232 saves put her three behind Emily Lahay (235, 4th) for fifth all-time in Sycamore history.
 
The Redbirds picked up wins at Eastern Illinois and at home against both Western Illinois and Southern Illinois to highlight their 2023 season to date. Their 1-0 win over SIU was their first MVC win of the season highlighted by Julia Liguore's goal, while Audrey Brown posted a shutout in goal.
 
Haley Glover is the team's scoring leader on the season with six goals in 2023 while pacing the Redbirds with 22 shots and 16 shots on goal. Liguore's three goals put her second on the roster, while Katie O'Malley and Ava Watson have three assists apiece.
 
Brown has started all 13 matches and played all 1170 minutes in net in 2023. She's posted a 1.85 goals-against-average with 52 saves against 156 shots faced.
