TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State women's soccer will welcome Purdue Fort Wayne to Memorial Stadium on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. ET for the Sycamores first of two exhibition matches prior to opening the regular season.
This will be the second consecutive season that Indiana State has opened their preseason against the Mastodons.
Purdue Fort Wayne is coming off a 5-8-6 season in 2021 including a 4-5-2 record in conference play which was good for a sixth place finish in the competitive Horizon League. The Mastadons blanked new Missouri Valley Conference member UIC last season in Fort Wayne.
The Sycamores return depth and experience across the field and welcomed back all five players that were recognized on the 2021 Missouri Valley All-Conference team headlined by midfielder
CeCe Wahlberg. Goalkeeper
Maddie Alexander (Second Team) and midfielder
Katie Yankey (Second Team) are also back, while forwards
Sasha Thompson (Honorable Mention) and
Mackenzie Kent (Honorable Mention) are expected to make their presence felt throughout the upcoming year.
Including exhibition matches, Indiana State holds an 8-3-2 advantage over Purdue Fort Wayne with the Sycamores winning 3-0 in 2019, the last time the Mastadons traveled to Terre Haute.
