TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State women's soccer will take on a pair of Big Ten opponents this week, first traveling to face Indiana on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET and finishing the weekend with a matchup at Illinois on Sunday, also set to kickoff at 8 p.m. ET.
The Sycamores fell 3-0 to Toledo on Sunday, dropping the Trees record to 0-2-1 through the non-conference slate.
Mackenzie Kent led Indiana State with two shot attempts while
Maddie Alexander and
Tara Hoffman made three saves apiece.
Scouting Indiana
Indiana enters Thursday's contest at 0-0-3 after playing to three scoreless ties to open up their season. The Hoosiers lead the all-time series 5-0 over ISU with the last regular season matchup coming in 2014 in Bloomington.
Head coach Erwin van Bennekom is in his fourth season at the helm, leading the Hoosiers to their best record since 2013 with a 9-5-4 last fall.
Sophomore keeper Jamie Gerstenberg, sophomore forward Jordyn Levy and freshman defender Arianna Rose were among 42 players named to the Big Ten preseason watch list.
Scouting Illinois
The Illini currently sit at 3-1-0 on the season with a matchup against No. 18 ranked Texas A&M coming on Thursday before the Sycamores come to town. This will be the fourth all-time matchup between ISU and Illinois, with the last contest coming in 2013. Illinois leads the series 2-1-0.
Coached by Janet Rayfield who is in her 21st season as head coach of the Illini, Illinois defeated nationally-ranked Butler on August 17 for their first win over a ranked opponent since 2019.
Illinois returned 10 players with 10 or more starts last season including Ashley Cathro, Kendra Pasquale and Eileen Murphy who were named to the Big Ten preseason watch list.
Indiana State Notes
Sophomore
Mackenzie Kent leads the Sycamores with six shot attempts, putting two on goal and finding the back of the net once to pace the ISU offense.
Goalkeepers
Maddie Alexander and
Tara Hoffman have each appeared in two matches, combining to make 18 saves.
