TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State women's golf made its home debut Sunday afternoon during the first round of the Indiana State Invitational at the Country Club of Terre Haute. The Sycamores posted a first-round score of 310 to finish third through 18 holes behind Green Bay (301) and Evansville (308).
Molly Lee led the charge for the Trees after firing a season-best two-over par 74 to finish the day tied for third. The Kaohsiung, Taiwan native finished the round with a trio of birdies, including two on the back nine on the par-3 16 and the par-5 18.
"I was good seeing Molly (Lee) have a good round today, especially as we head down the stretch to the MVC Championship," head coach
Greg Towne said. "Lauren (Green) is working through a couple injuries, and it might be the first time in her career that we didn't count her score, but I expect her to be ready to go by conference play here in a few weeks. Overall, I think we played average today, but we'll come out tomorrow and look to close this tournament out and pick up a win."
Madison Branum was steady throughout the day, shooting six over to finish with a 78 to place 10th.
Kristen Hobbs and
Chelsea Morrow each tallied an identical 79 to finish seven-over-par to place 16th and round out the scoring for ISU.
Both
Iyoun Chew and
Grace Welty competed as individuals for the Sycamores. Chew posted a 79 to place 16th with Welty shot an 82 to finish 27th to close out the first round.
Green Bay's Ashley Kulka (+1) and Caylie Kotlowski (+1) lead all individuals in scoring with Evansville's Magdalena Borisova and Lee coming in third at two-over.
