JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – Indiana State closed the Benbow Invitational Tuesday with a sixth-place finish in the field of 13 women's golf programs. The Sycamores (311-318-629) shot 34-over par as a team on the final day of play, slipping from their second-place finish after the first 18 holes of the event.
 
Host Butler took the tournament title after narrowly edging IUPUI with a total score of 609, shooting +14 during the final 18 holes. The Jaguars (610) finished one stroke out from Butler, shooting 42-over par overall and +15 Tuesday.
 
"After our performance Monday, I thought we might compete for the title today. It would have been something to be in it at our first event, but it wasn't in the cards," head coach Greg Towne noted. "We need to be more organized and focused on the course and we'll have a chance to do just that with a quick turnaround next week in Tennessee."
 
Anderson, Indiana native Kristen Hobbs moved two spots up the leaderboard in the final round to lead the Sycamores with a ninth-place finish (78-75-153). The sophomore shot a four-over 75 for the Sycamores on the final day and recorded three birdies on the back nine, finishing the two-day event with five birdies total.
 
Junior Lauren Green wrapped up the event tied for 13th overall. Green shot a 75 Monday before closing out play with an 80 to finish +9. Madison Branum improved her shot total by one stroke Tuesday, shooting a 79 to finish +17 and tied for 32nd. Branum finished strong, picking up a trio of birdies Tuesday after having just one during the first 18 holes of action.
