HOLLISTER, Mo. – Indiana State sits 12th overall in the field at the Ozarks National Invitational as the Sycamores began their final event of the 2022 fall season.
Kristen Hobbs (+7) is the leader in the clubhouse for ISU through the first 18 holes of the tournament as the Sycamores posted a team score 322 (+34) to sit two strokes back of tournament host Missouri State (+32).
"We're back in the pack, but I feel like we will make a move up tomorrow," ISU head coach
Greg Towne said following the opening round. "(We) had lots of good shots and bad decisions. Eventually the girls will get tired of that."
Hobbs birdied the fourth hole in the opening round to highlight her first day on the Ozarks National golf course. The junior finished with a first-round 79 (+7) to sit in a tie for 30th overall in the field.
Molly Lee finished one stroke back of her teammate following her first-round 80 (+8). Lee posted a birdie on the third hole to highlight her round as the junior shot two-over on the front nine. She sits tied for 42nd overall in the field through 18 holes.
Brianna LeMaire (+9) birdied both the 11th and 13th holes to sit as the lone Sycamore to go under par in multiple holes on the day. The freshman finished the day tied for 47th overall in the field.
Fellow freshman Yang Tai birdied the 15th hole on her way to an 82 (+10) opening round to round out the scoring for the Sycamores on the day. The Beijing, China native sits tied for 51st overall on the day.
Chelsea Morrow (+11) rounded out the lineup for the Sycamores on the afternoon to sit tied for 57th overall.
Grace Welty (+14) is also competing on the weekend as the sophomore takes on the field as an individual. She birdied the ninth hole to cap her day and finish tied for 65th overall through 18 holes.
Wichita State (+14) leads the overall team standings through the first day on the course. Omaha's Sydney Taake (-1) was the lone player under par through 18 holes to hold a two-stroke lead in the field.
