TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State women's soccer will look to begin a new winning streak as they welcome Northern Iowa to Memorial Stadium on Sunday afternoon for a 1 p.m. ET matchup.
The Sycamores had their three-match unbeaten streak to start MVC play snapped on September 29 with a 3-1 loss to Murray State where the Racers scored three second-half goals to defeat ISU at Cutchin Field.
Josie Bakaitis scored her first collegiate goal with a header, finishing off a
Ella Gorrie corner kick for Gorrie's team-leading second assist of the season.
Gorrie has a team best four points with one goal and her two assists this season, followed by six Sycamore players who have two points apiece.
Maddie Alexander and
Tara Hoffman have each seen action in the net in 2022, with Alexander making 34 saves while Hoffman has made 17 stops.
Prior to Sunday's matchup,
CeCe Wahlberg (82) is now eight shots on goal from surpassing Lauren Podolski (89) for most all-time at ISU while
Maddie Alexander is 12 saves from moving into the career top five.
Northern Iowa comes to Terre Haute with a 1-2-1 record in MVC play, ending in a 2-2 draw in their most recent match against Evansville. In his fourth year as head coach of the Panthers, Bruce Erickson is led by junior Lauren Heinsch who leads the Valley with four goals and eight points this season. Three goalies have seen action for UNI with Caitlin Richards leading the team with 34 saves.
Indiana State holds a 9-6-3 lead in the all-time series, winning two-straight matches including a 3-1 win in Cedar Falls last fall where
Sasha Thompson netted two goals. ISU has been strong in matches at Memorial Stadium, going 5-2-1 in contests in Terre Haute. The series dates back to 2005 when the Sycamores won 2-0 in Cedar Falls in the inaugural matchup between the two schools.
