LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Competing in its largest field to date, 13 Indiana State cross country athletes broke personal records Saturday morning in the Live in Lou Cross Country Classic Saturday morning at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park.
Saturday's men's 8k featured a fast group competing in ideal conditions on a quick course, as eight of the nine competing Sycamores ran career-best times.
Cannen Wolf had the biggest PR improvement, shattering his previous best by over a minute, while
Jason Dworak,
Jackson Krieg and
Logan Pietrzak all bested their previous top marks by 40 seconds or more.
Indiana State's men's team wasn't the only group setting career-best times on the course Saturday, as all six Sycamores set new personal bests in the women's 5k.
Chloe Loftus had the biggest jump, trimming nearly two minutes off her previous top 5k time, while
Kyra Young and
Sara Skaff both broke their previous PR by more than 30 seconds.
Krieg led the way for the Sycamores on the men's side for the second third consecutive meet, placing 55th with a time of 24:22.0. Dworak (75th, 24.35.7) and Pietrzak (98th, 24:46.6) rounded out the top three finishers for the Trees, giving Indiana State a trio of top-100 finishers in by far the deepest field the Sycamores have competed in this season.
Cael Light (147th, 25:10.9) and
Ethan Breen (179th, 25:31.0) completed the Sycamores' five scorers. Wolf (197th, 25:40.2),
Wyatt Wyman (204th, 25:42.4),
Layton Hall (215th, 25:50.3) and
Emerson Fayman (231st,26:00.6) rounded out the competitors on the men's side for the Sycamores. Saturday's meet was Fayman's collegiate debut.
Erica Barker paced the Indiana State women with a time of 18:48.1 to place 206th, while Skaff was second among Sycamore finishers in 225th with a time of 18:55.6. Loftus, making her season debut, ran a career-best time of 19:14.0 to finish 265th.
Cami Farmer (262nd, 19:29.4) and
Kyra Young (340th, 19:58.9) rounded out the top five for the Trees, while Maria Biskopstoe made her collegiate debut and finished with a time of 20:42.5 to place 365th.
Grand Valley State won the men's team title, while Furman took home the women's team title. Grand Valley State also had the men's individual winner in Tanner Chada (23:18.1), while West Virginia's Ceili McCabe (16:23.9) won the women's individual title.
