EVANSVILLE, Ind. – At their first cross country meet in 658 days, the Indiana State men's cross country team placed second and the women took third at the Evansville Opener in a preview of the NCAA Great Lakes Regional course.

The Sycamore men tallied 60 points to place second, defeating Marquette (65), Vincennes (132), Evansville (134) and Oakland City (182). Ohio State claimed victory on the men's side with 15 points. On the women's side, the Trees ended with 69 points to take third in front of Kentucky Wesleyan (132), Evansville (148), Vincennes (159) and Oakland City (187). Ohio State and Marquette took the top two spots with 16 and 53 points, respectively.

Senior leader
Cale Kilian led the way on the men's side for the Blue & White, placing eighth in the men's 8K with a time of 25:58.3. His teammate, veteran
Jackson Krieg, crossed the line in ninth right next to him, also with a time of 25:58.3.

Terre Haute native and freshman
Cael Light was the third scorer across the line for Indiana State, taking 12th overall at 26:27.4. The duo of
Negus Bogard and
Ethan Breen rounded out the scoring for the men, placing 15th and 16th with times of 25:35.3 and 26:39.5, respectively.

On the women's side,
Jocelyn Quiles led the Sycamore delegation after a seventh-place finish and time of 18:08.2. The cross country freshman from Chicago,
Sydney Partyka, opened her cross country career by placing 12th at Angel Mounds, racing to a time of 18:49.1.

Erica Barker and
Morgan Dyer managed to stay together for ISU, placing 15th and 16th at 19:41.5 and 19:41.9, respectively. The final scorer for Indiana State came from
Cassidy Bagby who took 20th behind an effort of 20:05.8.

After taking a week off, the Sycamores will return to action on Sept. 18 when they return home to host the John McNichols Invitational at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
