TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State women's soccer will welcome Valparaiso to Memorial Stadium on Friday night for a Missouri Valley Conference matchup. The match will be streamed live on ESPN3.
SYCAMORE SEASON IN FULL SWING
The Sycamores opened MVC play with a road contest on Saturday at Loyola where they fell 2-1 in the final seconds of the match.
Maddie Alexander recorded a career-high nine saves and
CeCe Wahlberg scored her second goal of the season.
Wahlberg is now tied with
Mackenzie Kent for the team lead in goals with two and moves into second in the MVC in shots on goal with 15 this season. Seven different Sycamores have put their name in the scoring column this season.
Kent and
Sasha Thompson lead the team with two assists each.
Kloe Pettigrew has played in 833 of 844 possible minutes this season which leads the team.
Alexa Mackey and Katie are right behind her with 820 and 809 minutes played, respectively.
THE OPPONENT
Valparaiso leads the all-time series against Indiana State 11-3-2. Their last trip to Memorial Stadium came during the 2021 spring season in the MVC Tournament where the Sycamores lost 1-0 in a double overtime heartbreaker.
The Beacons comes to Terre Haute with a 4-4-1 record after a 1-0 win over Illinois State to begin their conference schedule. Kelsie James recorded her third assist of the year with her pass to Dana Fish who scored on a header in the 83
rd minute to give the Beacons the lead and eventually the win.
James, who was an Honorable Mention All-MVC Selection in the spring, leads the Beacons with 11 points this season (four goals, three assists). She ranks first in the MVC with 37 shots and 19 shots on goal. Goalkeeper Nikki Coryell has made 45 saves including seven in a shutout of Illinois State last Friday.
Valparaiso is coached by John Marovich who enters his 14
th season at the helm. He has been on the coaching staff since 2002. Before the Beacons joined the MVC, Marovich was named the Horizon League Coach of the Year in 2014.
