Four Sycamores to Compete at US Olympic/Paralympic Trials

EUGENE, Ore. – A quartet of four current and former Indiana State track and field athletes will compete at the United States Olympic and Paralympic Trials for a chance to represent the United States in Tokyo for the 2021 Olympic/Paralympic Games.

Three Sycamores will head to historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., for the Olympic Team Trials including Felisha Johnson (shot put), Ryann Porter (triple jump) and Erin Reese (hammer throw). Noah Malone will compete at the US Paralympic Trials in Minneapolis, Minn., in the men's 100 and 400-meter dashes.

The goal for the four Indiana State athletes won't be a for the crown of national champion, but for a qualifying spot on Team USA for the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. To qualify, athletes must finish within the top-three in their events and also own the Olympic qualifying standard. Thus, if an athlete finishes fourth and owns the standard but one of the top three do not, the third and final qualifying spot goes to the next person with the standard.

Malone will get the action started on Friday, June 18 at 7:05 p.m. ET at the Paralympic Trials before competing in the men's 400-meter dash on Saturday, June 19 at 11:50 a.m. ET. In Eugene, Porter is slated to get the action going for Indiana State on Friday at 9:15 p.m. ET. Indiana State alums Erin Reese and Felisha Johnson will compete on Thursday, June 24 at 4:25 and 4:30 p.m. ET, respectively.

The U.S. Olympic Trials can be watched live on the NBC family of networks.
