VALPARAISO, Ind. – The Indiana State soccer team hits the road for its first Missouri Valley Conference road match of the 2021 spring campaign, taking on Valparaiso Tuesday, March 9 at 3 p.m. ET at Brown Field.
OPENING WHISTLE
- Indiana State registered its second consecutive 1-0 home victory Friday, taking down Southern Illinois in the friendly confines of ISU Memorial Stadium.
- The Sycamores' goal had a flair of the dramatic, as sophomore CeCe Wahlberg found the back of the net for her first goal of the spring campaign in the 85th minute. Freshman Sasha Thompson helped it happen with her first career assist.
- Freshman keeper Maddie Alexander continued her stellar rookie campaign, registering her second straight clean sheet, making six saves against the Salukis. It marked the third straight match of six saves.
- Sophomore defender Chloee Kooker was named Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the week Tuesday, March 2, by the league office. Kooker anchored the ISU defense at center back, playing all 90 minutes and helping produce the Sycamores' first clean sheet in Valley play since October 23, 2016.

- Indiana State and Valparaiso are squaring off for the 15th time in program history, with Valpo holding the all-time advantage at 3-9-2 in the first 14 meetings.
- The Sycamores will be searching for their first win at Valpo in program history Tuesday, having an 0-5-1 mark all-time at Brown Field.
- ISU and Valpo began their series in the first season of Sycamore soccer in 2000. They played every season until 2010, and then took a seven-year hiatus before Valparaiso joined the MVC.
- Since Valparaiso joined the Valley, Indiana State is 1-2-0 against them.
