TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State baseball will play its first midweek game of the season on Tuesday against Florida Gulf Coast. First pitch with the Eagles is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. from Swanson Stadium in Fort Myers. The game will air on the FGCU YouTube page.

» Indiana State baseball continues its seven-game road swing in the state of Florida with a midweek matchup at Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday. The meeting with FGCU will mark the first game against the Eagles in program history.
 
» Indiana State secured its first weekend sweep of the 2021 season at Florida International. It marked the first sweep for the Sycamores since taking three from Elon in the shortened 2020 season. Since 2018, has swept 10 weekend opponents.
 
» Indiana State sits at No. 9 in the current RPI ranking after winning its last three games, according to WarrenNolan.com. ISU has wins over Pittsburgh (#15), Tennessee (#32) as well as a sweep of FIU (#207). Florida Gulf Coast comes into Tuesday's matchup ranked No. 8 in RPI. Currently Indiana State's nonconference strength of schedule ranks 10th nationally.
 
» With a weekend split at No. 16 Tennessee, Indiana State became the first team to defeat the Volunteers in the month of February since 2018. Entering the weekend, UT was 26-0 against opponents during the month over the last three seasons. The weekend also marked the first ranked win for the Sycamores since knocking No. 25 Dallas Baptist out of the MVC Tournament in 2019; two of four ranked wins for the Trees in 2019 (Illinois, Michigan, DBU).
 
» Geremy Guerrero put together a performance that will live forever in the Sycamore record book during his Friday night start against Florida International. Guerrero was dominant on the mound, going a career high eight innings while also retiring a career high 15 batters on strikeouts. The left-hander allowed baserunners in just the fourth inning and retired at least nine-straight FIU batters on two separate occasions. Following the fourth inning, Guerrero sat down 11-straight batters en route to his second win of the season. The 15 strikeouts by the redshirt senior tied for the second-most in program history, just one shy of Dan Lazar's 16-strikeout outing in 1965. The last time a Sycamore fanned 15 batters was in 1984 by Blaise Ilsley.
 
» Indiana State's Max Wright put together another strong weekend at the plate as he helped the Sycamores to a three-game sweep over Florida International. Wright, a redshirt senior, started all three games and finished with a .444 average (4-for-9) but reached base 12 times after drawing seven walks and being hit-by-pitch once for a .706 on-base percentage. The Toronto native tallied his team-best third home run of the season in the middle game of the series and finished the weekend with a double, three RBI, three runs scores and a .889 slugging percentage.
 
» Josue Urdaneta was perfect from the plate in six appearances in the series opener with FIU. He singled four times as well as doubled while drawing a walk and driving in two runs from the leadoff spot. The switch-hitter is second on the team with a .317 average (13-for-41) to go along with his .439 slugging percentage.
 
» Jordan Schaffer has started all 10 games for the Sycamores at shortstop in 2021. After leading the team in average in a shortened 2020 season, the redshirt junior is hitting .311 while leading ISU with 14 hits. The leadoff man also leads the Sycamores in runs scored with nine. Schaffer was off to a blazing start as he hit a team-best .462 (6-for-13) on opening weekend with a three-game series with Pittsburgh. Schaffer also led the team with two runs scored while stealing a base. The Terre Haute, Ind. native was 4-for-5 on opening day and recorded a hit in each game during the Snowbird Baseball Classic.
 
» Following Tuesday's game with FGCU, the Sycamores will travel to Boca Raton for a three-game series with No. 20 Florida Atlantic beginning on Thursday.
