TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State soccer team returns home for another Missouri Valley Conference contest Friday, March 5, taking on Southern Illinois at 1 p.m. ET in ISU Memorial Stadium.
OPENING WHISTLE
- Indiana State is coming off a 1-0 home victory over Drake on Sunday. ISU was the lone Valley school to score a goal on Sunday in MVC play.
- Freshman keeper
Maddie Alexander notched the first clean sheet of her career, making six saves against the Bulldogs in her home debut.
- The Sycamores' first goal of the campaign was thanks to freshman
Katie Yankey, who drove home a rebound in the 73rd minute.
- Sophomore defender
Chloee Kooker was named Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the week Tuesday, March 2, by the league office. Kooker anchored the ISU defense at center back, playing all 90 minutes and helping produce the Sycamores' first clean sheet in Valley play since October 23, 2016 (1-0 over Loyola).
- The Missouri Valley Conference announced its 2021 Spring Preseason poll and All-MVC team Feb. 24, with sophomore
Cece Wahlberg highlighting the selections for Indiana State. Wahlberg was one of 11 named to the All-MVC Preseason First Team.
MATCH PREVIEW
- Indiana State and Southern Illinois are playing for the first time in program history.
- Southern Illinois is the Missouri Valley Conference's newest program, having played its first season in the fall of 2019. The Salukis did not play a MVC schedule.
- SIU has yet to score a goal this season, but earned a draw in their first-ever Valley match against Valparaiso.
