Glanton’s double-double not enough to guide Sycamores past Western Michigan

Box Score TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State's second-half rally fell short against Western Michigan on Saturday evening as the Sycamores fell to the visiting Broncos in Hulman Center, 68-67.

Mya Glanton posted her first collegiate double-double with a dominant 22-point, 16-rebound performance to pace the Sycamores (3-5) as Indiana State rallied back from a 15-point third-quarter deficit to tie the game up at 59-59 with 6:06 remaining in the fourth quarter. Del'Janae Williams posted seven steals, three in the fourth quarter, to help provide a late spark in the Sycamores' full-court defensive set and added 15 points in her third consecutive double-digit scoring effort.

After ISU tied the game up at 59-59 on the Williams layup at the 6:06 mark, the Broncos responded with a 9-0 run over the next four minutes with Reilly Jacobson's layup at the 2:37 mark giving WMU (5-2) the 68-59 lead.

Indiana State mounted one final comeback late as Glanton and Williams again took the lead with duo combining for six straight points to cut the margin down to three with 1:08 left to play. Tonysha Curry added a layup with 41 seconds left to cut the WMU margin down to one point.

Marie Hunter drew an offensive foul on the ensuing Western Michigan possession to swing possession back to the Sycamores. Out of the timeout, Williams drew the ball in isolation, but her drive was cut short by Jacobson and possession swung back to the Broncos to close out the contest.

Glanton's 22-point performance gave the Sycamores three consecutive games with a player hitting the 20-point mark, while her 16-rebounds left her just shy of the top-10 mark in the ISU record book. Glanton went 9-of-13 from the floor and 4-of-6 from the free throw line with most of her damage on the glass coming on the offensive end with nine offensive boards.

Williams added 15 points, five assists, and seven steals, while Hunter finished the contest with nine points and three assists in the loss.

Lauren Ross led all players with 25 points in the WMU win as the guard went 9-of-13 from the floor and 2-of-4 from the three-point line. Taylor Williams added 18 points and nine rebounds, while Jacobson finished the game with 11 points and six steals.

First Half
The first quarter swung back-and-forth with neither team able to take more than a six-point lead in the first quarter as Natalia Lalic put the Sycamores up 10-4 with 1:34 left in the frame. The Broncos closed out the quarter on a 7-0 stretch with Hannah Spitzley capping the run with a three-pointer with four seconds remaining to give WMU the 11-10 lead.

The Broncos continued to put the pressure on the Sycamores as the WMU lead reached 11 points at the 6:47 mark on a Williams three-pointer to give the visitors the 24-13 lead. ISU steadily fought their way back with a 9-0 run sparked by an Arianna Smith layup to cut the score down to 24-22 with 2:01 remaining. The margin was back to five on a Maddie Watters jumper to give the Broncos the 27-22 halftime lead.

Second Half
The teams battled through the early part of the third quarter with another Lalic three-pointer cutting the WMU lead down to 30-29 with 7:42 remaining. Western Michigan stretched the lead back out to seven on two separate occasions before taking a double-digit lead with 2:14 remaining in the quarter on a quartet of Ross free throws to give the Broncos the 51-39 lead.

WMU's lead reached 56-41 with 1:24 remaining in the third quarter before the Sycamores mounted their comeback. ISU went on an 11-0 run spanning the third and fourth quarters with Glanton pulling down an offensive rebound and putting it back up to cut the WMU lead down to 56-52 with 8:35 to play. The Sycamores continued to battle back with Williams driving in for a layup at the 6:06 mark to tie the contest up at 59-59.

It became a battle of runs late with WMU going on a 9-0 stretch highlighted by Ross' five points, before ISU's late comeback just before the buzzer fell short.
