ST. LOUIS – CeCe Wahlberg and Katie Yankey were both named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team, the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Wahlberg was named to the First Team while Yankey made the Honorable Mention Team.

The criteria for the honor parallels the CoSIDA standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA (on a 4.00 scale). Also, students must have participated in at least 75 percent of the regular-season matches or played in the MVC Tournament.

Student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution (true freshmen and redshirt freshmen not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at their institution. Sports Information Directors at MVC institutions voted for the team. A total of 46 student-athletes met the criteria for the award.

Wahlberg, a junior Elementary Education major, owns a 3.73 cumulative GPA. This is her second-straight season earning First Team Scholar-Athlete honors. On the field this season, she led the Sycamores with 15 points (six goals, three assists) and led the conference with 13 points during MVC play to earn First Team All-MVC honors. She finished the season with a .618 shooting percentage which ranks 24^th nationally.

Yankey, a sophomore Applied Medicine major, has a 4.0 GPA. She was named to the MVC Academic Honor Roll in the spring. Starting in 16 of 17 matches, she finished tied for the team lead in assists with three while logging 1585 minutes. She scored the opening goal of the season for the Sycamores in their 3-1 win over Eastern Illinois.
