TOPEKA, Kan. –
Chloe Farro established a new Indiana State record in the 100-yard Free event, while
Madie Rutan took the individual event title in the 200 Backstroke event to highlight the Sycamores on the final day at the Capital Federal Natatorium. The Sycamores also set a new ISU record in the 400-yard freestyle relay on their way to finishing third overall at the Kansas Classic.
Sycamores recorded 431 points overall and topped fellow Missouri Valley school Northern Iowa (343, 5th) in the six-team field. Kansas (1,191) took the overall title, while Iowa State (786) finished second.
Kansas Classic (Morning)
Madie Rutan continued her strong weekend as the sophomore took nearly four seconds off her previous-best time in the 200 Back to place fifth in the preliminary rounds of the event. Her time of 2:01.17 was 3.61 better than her previous mark and put her in good position among the leaders in the event on the final day. Olivia DiRuzza (2:04.01, 15th) and
Carmen Alard Vegas (2:04.29, 17th) also finished among the top-20 in the field, while
Trista Bullock (2:06.90, 23rd) was also in the top 25.
Chloe Farro set a school-record in the 100 Free in the morning event as the freshman set a blistering pace in finishing third overall in the field. Her time of 51.11 took .17 seconds off the previous best set by Alex Malmborg back in 2019.
Emily Webb continued her strong weekend as the senior finished 13th in the field in 52.13 to highlight the Sycamores in the preliminary event.
Alexandria Cotter was the team leader in the 200 Breast preliminaries as the freshman took 11th in the field. Cotter's time of 2:22.59 took over three seconds off her best time and put her in the Sunday afternoon finals.
Elle Gilkerson (2:24.48, 16th) and Anna-Maria Nasiou (2:25.81, 20th) were also in the top-20, while
Makayla Sura (2:26.38) finished 23rd in the event.
Marni Gray was in the top-three in the 200 Fly preliminaries as the Toronto, Canada native dropped 2.45 seconds off her time to touch the wall in 2:03.74.
Alexa Szadorski was just outside the top-10 in the event with her time of 2:06.98 putting her 11th in the field.
Molly Fogarty took more than 23 seconds off her previous-best time in the 1650 as the junior finished seventh in the event final with a time of 17:23.11.
Andrea Putrimas was just behind her teammate in 17:23.86 to place eighth, while
Rhiannon Wozny touched in 17:52.68 to place 16th overall.
Rose Parsons finished 21st in 18:11.67.
Kansas Classic (Evening)
200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, 400 Free Relay
Rutan continued her standout weekend at the Kansas Classic as the sophomore touched the wall first in the 200 Back finals. The Roseville, Calif. native cut 3.10 seconds off her previous-best time to finish in 1:58.07 to out-touch Kansas' Dewi Blose (1:58.11) to claim the title. DiRuzza finished 12th in the field with a time of 2:02.79, while Alard Vegas touched in 2:02.65 to place 17th. Bullock's time of 2:05.73 put her 21st overall in the field.
Farro went below her school-record mark set earlier in the morning as the Savaneta, Aruba native finished fourth overall in the field in the 100 Free. Farro's mark of 50.85 was .26 ahead of her time from the morning preliminary round to put her just outside the top-three in the field. Webb finished 13th overall in the field in 51.95.
Cotter, Gilkerson, and Nasiou were both in the top-20 in the 200 Breast event on Sunday afternoon. Cotter's time of 2:22.58 put her 14th overall, while Gilkerson placed 16th in 2:23.60. Nasiou added a 2:23.50 to place 19th in the field.
Gray wrapped up her final individual event of the weekend with a time of 2:03.97 to place fifth overall in the 200 Fly. Szadorski continued her strong weekend placing 12th overall with a time of 2:06.35.
The Sycamores' "A" squad of Farro, Szadorski,
Kaimi Matsumoto, and Webb finished the 400 Free Relay in 3:25.74 to place fourth overall in the field. Their time shaved .06 off the school-record in the event and supplanted the mark set back in 2019 at the MVC Championships. Cotter, Bullock,
Jordan Gruce, and Putrimas placed 14th overall in 3:32.64, while
Marissa Kozel, Rutan, Gilkerson, and Wozny finished 18th in 3:35.39. The final quartet of
Rachel Sanqunetti, Gray, Alard Vegas, and
Ellie Alexander finished 19th with a time of 3:35.67.

The Sycamores are back in action on Saturday, December 4 as Indiana State hosts Bellarmine and Eastern Illinois at the Indiana State Tri-Meet at the Vigo County Aquatic Center. The Sycamores' Senior Day meet is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
