INDIANA STATE NOTES
NOTES
- A Win Would: A win would give Indiana State their first victory of the 2020-21 campaign while also marking the third-consecutive year that the Trees picked-up their first victory on the road. It would also extend a three-game winning streak over Detroit and give the Sycamores the 4-3 series advantage.
- Last Time Out: The Sycamores opened their 2020-21 campaign on Wednesday at Big-10 foe Illinois. Caitlin Anderson led the way with 19 points, five rebounds and four steals while senior Jamyra McChristine was dominant on the boards with 13 rebounds. Illinois ended up with the victory, 68-49.
- A Point of Emphasis: A big point of emphasis during the offseason for Sycamore women's basketball was closing the gap in the rebounding game. On Wednesday, the undersized Trees did just that against an Illinois squad that boasts six athletes over 6'2", only trailing the Illini 42-40 on the glass.
- Flipped Experience: The 2019-20 women's basketball campaign saw the Sycamores compete as the least experience team in the NCAA with 14 newcomers. This season, the Trees return 10 letter winners and 11 of 14 from their roster overall. Combined with a pair of JUCO transfers and an incoming freshman, Indiana State's roster now consists of three seniors, three juniors, six sophomores and two freshmen, 10 of whom have seen Division I action.
- Honored Returner: After earning a spot on the Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshman team a season ago, Del'Janae Williams returns looking to lead a talented group of six sophomores on the court. During the 2019-20 season, Williams averaged 8.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.7 steals per game, including four games with four or more steals.
- Low Post Presence: The Sycamores return their leader on-the-court from a year ago in senior and low post power Jamyra McChristine. McChristine led Indiana State in scoring and rebounding with 11.0 points and 6.4 rebounds per game during the 2019-20 season and also recorded the seventh-best season in Sycamore history from the field, knocking down 54.1% of her shot attempts.
- Sycamores Picked Ninth: The Indiana State women's basketball team was picked to finish ninth in the Missouri Valley Conference's annual preseason poll. The Blue and White finished with 129 points in the preseason poll, just four points behind Loyola, a team the Sycamores were slated to playin the opening round of the MVC Tournament last year. ISU finished ninth last year after getting picked to finish ninth. Missouri State was picked to win the league.
