TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Indiana State women's soccer team will return to the pitch on Thursday, August 15 at 7 pm (ET) when they hit the turf inside the friendly confines of Memorial Stadium to take on Marian. This is the second of two preseason friendly exhibitions for the Sycamores this year as part of fall camp.
Freshman
Celeste Wahlberg led the way for the Sycamores with a pair of shots which just sailed high in the first half of Indiana State's first exhibition contest of the fall on Saturday at Indiana. Despite being tied at halftime, the Hoosiers were able to put up a trio of goals in the final 45 minutes for the 3-0 victory.
One of the Sycamores returning leaders from 2018 is junior
Danielle Varner who picked up All-MVC Second Team honors as well as named a MVC Scholar-Athlete Honorable Mention pick. She scored a pair of goals and added an assist for a total of five points on the season while firing off 15 shots, including five on goal. Varner scored her first goal of the season at Akron as she had three shots in the contest. She then added another goal as part of the eight goal outburst against Chicago State. Varner was named the MVC Defensive Player of the Week after the Sycamores completed a busy three-game road swing around the Labor Day weekend undefeated.
The Sycamores begin the 2019 campaign in earnest on Friday, August 23 when they travel to UMKC for the season opener in Kansas City, Mo. Kickoff is set for 8 pm (ET). The two-match road swing to begin the season concludes on Sunday, August 25 at Saint Louis. The match against the Billikens begins at 2 pm (ET).
