Indiana State Ready for Tiger Turkey Tipoff Tournament this Weekend

STOCKTON, Calif. – Indiana State will continue their basketball experience out west this weekend when they travel to Stockton, Calif., for the Tiger Turkey Tipoff.
 
The Sycamores will open with the University of the Pacific on Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET and face either Cal State Northridge or Southern Methodist in the second game on Saturday.

NOTES
  • The Series: Indiana State and Pacific meet for the first time on Friday, while this will only be ISU's second game against a WCC team in program history. ISU will play either SMU/CSUN on Saturday.
  • About SMU: SMU enters the Tiger Turkey Tipoff with a 2-2 records with wins against McNeese State and Rice and losses coming to Northern Colorado and Texas Christian. The Mustangs average 61.0 points-per-game as well as 46.5 rebounds and are led by BriShonne Tallie who averages 13.3 points and 7.8 rebounds each game. Johnasia Cash also averages 10.8 points and 9.5 rebounds.
  • About CSUN: CSUN enters the weekend's tourney with a record of 1-5, with their lone win coming at home against Portland, 73-64. The Matadors average 58.5 points-per-game and are led by redshirt senior forward De'Jionae Calloway who averages 13.5 points and 9.5 rebounds-per-game. 
  • Northwest Florida Connection: Juniors CeCe Mayo and LeAndra Echi, both products on Northwest Florida State, were the leaders for the Sycamores at Colorado. Mayo led the scoring effort with 10 to go along with four steals, while Echi finished with seven points, 11 boards and four assists. Echi now has three games with 10 or more rebounds this season.  Echi is fourth in the MVC in rebounds-per-game with 8.8.
  • Block Party: The Sycamores have been all over opposing shooters over the past two games, led by impressive efforts from Echi. Against UIC last Tuesday, Echi recorded six blocks and then followed that performance with three blocks against Colorado. The junior leads the Missouri Valley Conference in blocks-per-game with 1.8. As a team, ISU is fifth in the Valley, rejecting 3.6 per game.
  • It Starts with Defense: The Sycamores have established themselves as one of the better defensive teams in the Valley early in the season, recording 49 steals through five games for an average of 9.80 steals-per-game, best in the MVC. Freshmen Del'Janae Williams and Sommer Pitzer own the second and third most steals-per-game in the league with averages of 2.8 and 2.5, respectively.
  • Hitting the Boards: Through their first four games, ISU can boast themselves as the best offensive rebounding team in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Trees have pulled down 71 boards in five games, giving them an average of 14.2 per-game.
