Sycamore Duo Named To MVC Scholar-Athlete Team

ST. LOUIS – A pair of Sycamore women's soccer student-athletes have been selected to the All-Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team as announced today (Nov. 19) by the league office. The league's scholar-athlete team was selected by a panel of institutional communications directors.

Sophomore Jensen Margheim was one of 17 league-wide to pick up All-Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete honors. Senior Katie Sidloski was selected to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Honorable Mention squad.

Margheim burst onto the scene in 2019 with a pair of goals scored and an assist for five points on 29 shots taken. She currently carries a perfect 4.0 GPA in Athletic Training. She added 15 shots on goal and scored goals against Purdue Fort Wayne as well as in the regular season finale against Missouri State. She was credited with an assist in the MVC victory over Valparaiso.

Sidloski, who maintains a 3.96 GPA in Biology, earned 11 starts on the year and scored a pair of goals while being credited with an assist for five total points on nine shots taken. She owned six shots on goal during the year and scored the first goal of the year in the season opener at Saint Louis. Sidloski came back with another goal scored in the senior day victory over Purdue Fort Wayne. She tallied an assist in the MVC victory over Valparaiso.

This year's Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete First-Team and Honorable Mentions include 19 student-athletes, with 46 being nominated for the honor. The criteria for the honor parallels the CoSIDA standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA (on a 4.00 scale).  Also, students must have participated in at least 75 percent of the regular-season matches or the MVC Championship.  Student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution (true freshmen and redshirt freshmen not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at their institution.  Sports Information Directors at MVC institutions voted for the team.

Illinois State's Kate Del Fava was named the MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Joining Del Fava and Margheim on the team were Drake's Vanessa Kavan; Evansville's Mikayla Harvey; Illinois State's Ashley Santos, Haley Smith and Natalie Vaughn-Low; Loyola's Ari Banks, Lindsey Hardiman, Madison Laudeman and Aleska Tataryn; Missouri State's Kaitlin Maxwell, Olina Einarsdottir and Jordan Eickelman; Northern Iowa's Sydney Hayden and Jordyn Rolli as well as Valparaiso's Ali Quillen.

Sidloski was joined on the honorable mention squad by Illinois State's Megan McEachern.
