ST. LOUIS -- She made the Sycamores week by scoring the game winning goal over Valparaiso and on Monday, the league made hers as Serra Hanrahan was named MVC Newcomer of the Week following her efforts in the home field win over Valparaiso.

Indiana State freshman Serra Hanrahan may have only played six minutes in the 3-2 victory against Valparaiso, but she made them count! Hanrahan took a pass from senior Katie Sidloski in the 77^th minute into the right corner of the penalty box. She then used a great shot across the grain and into the back left corner of the net to break a tie and make sure her first ever collegiate goal was a game winner. Hanrahan only put one shot on goal in the match and she made it count with the game winner – the Sycamores' first league victory since October of 2017.

Indiana State's 3-2 victory over Valparaiso on Saturday, October 5 broke a 721 day drought for the program in the Missouri Valley Conference win column. Prior to Saturday's victory the last MVC win for the program came on October 14, 2017 against Illinois State. It was an 11-match streak that saw the Sycamores drop nine of those matches and finish with a pair of draws. Overall, ISU is 1-0-1 to start the MVC campaign – the best for the program since a 2-0-0 start to begin the 2006 conference season with a pair of victories over Northern Iowa and Missouri State.

The Sycamores travel to Northern Iowa on Saturday, October 12 as they battle the Panthers in MVC action. Kick-off is set for 3 pm (ET) and will be televised nationally on ESPN+.
