Ciao! Sycamore Volleyball to Compete in Italy this June

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The 2020 Indiana State volleyball squad will take a trip across the Atlantic in June for a chance to compete in Italy before the season starts.

This will be Sycamore volleyball's first-ever overseas trip and helps give ISU the opportunity to take a big step forward in being competitive in the Missouri Valley Conference. The volleyball team, including the 2020 recruiting class, will report for ten additional practices on campus prior to the trip.

Indiana State is holding an apparel fundraiser through Pacesetter Sports and accepting donations for the trip through the ISU foundation. Donation inquiries can be sent to Sherard.Clinkscales@indstate.edu and Jeremiah.Turner@indstate.edu.

The trip is scheduled to take place from June 10-19, 2020 and will also serve as an educational opportunity, giving the Sycamores a chance to learn about Italian culture and history in cities such as Florence, Milan and Rome.

After arriving in Rome on June 11, the Trees will get a guided tour of the Eternal City, followed by guided visits of Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica on Friday, June 12. ISU will play their first friendly game against a local team on Friday as well.

Saturday the team will begin their travel to Florence, stopping first in Siena to enjoy the horse racing and lunch. On Sunday, June 14, ISU will get a guided visit of Florence, the art capital of Italy, visiting sites such as the Ponte Vecchio and Michelangelo's statue of David before playing their second friendly of the trip that night.

The final match of their tour will take place on Wednesday, June 17 in Milan, but the team will get to enjoy a bike tour of Lucca and visit the Cinque Terre (five towns) on Monday and Tuesday before the match.

In Milan the Sycamores will get a guided tour of the fashion and economical capital of Italy before transferring to Como Lake for a private boat cruise on Como Lake on Thursday. They will fly home on Friday, June 19.

Fundraising will play a crucial role in the Sycamores' overseas experience and ISU volleyball is thankful for the continued support shown by the community and excited about the opportunity to represent Indiana State in Europe.
