TERRE HAUTE, Ind. --Â Indiana State broke through early against visiting Western Michigan with a penalty kick before a second half offensive spurt from the Broncos proved to be enough to overcome a late Sycamore goal on an exciting evening of college soccer in front of 467 fans inside Memorial Stadium. Western Michigan owned a 3-2 victory when the final horn sounded.
Indiana State fell to 5-3-2 on the season to end their five match undefeated streak. Western Michigan improved to 6-2-0. ISU's five match undefeated streak was the longest for the program since a six gamer back in 2013.
The Sycamores scored first in the match whenÂ
Katie Sidloski notched her third goal of the season after the Broncos were whistled for a penalty inside the box. Sidloski addressed the ball and used the top left corner of the net to give the Sycamores a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute.

Western Michigan nearly tied the match in the 60th minute as a free kick from 24 yards out bounded off the cross bar and thenÂ
Hannah Sullivan made another save seconds later on a ball which tried to sneak into the upper right corner but she used every inch she could muster to stop a ricochet off the right post.
Then the Broncos equalized the match in the 62nd minute when Morgan Otteson scored after a scramble in front of the goal off the feed from Hannah Hahn. Then right back in the 63rd minute, Paige Dobbs scored off a feed from Grace LaBadie to give Western Michigan a 2-1 advantage. Their third goal in the span of less than three minutes came off an Alyssa Burke score with the assist going to LaBadie for the 3-1 lead.
Indiana State turned up the offensive heat in response and after a foul in the 85th minute,Â

Alina Steffen just outside of the penalty box. While leaning to ward off the defense, Steffen used her forward foot to get a powerful kick into the air and it found the back of the net to trim the Bronco lead down to 3-2.
From there, the Sycamores really turned up the pressure and had a pair of strong offensive charges. ISU appeared to have a break away towards the goal in the final two minutes but a tackle was ruled a play on and ended that threat.Â
Caitlyn Eddy tried a long shot off a free kick in the final minute but the ball sailed high before time expired.
Sidloski scored her third goal of the season while Steffen pushed her second of the year into the back of the net. Wells had the assist on Steffen's goal to give her 51 points for her career which moved her into a tie for second all-time in points scored. She is now tied with Maddie Orf. It was her 17th career assist which moves her within three assists of Lauren Podolski for a tie of the school record. It was Well's fifth consecutive match with at least one point scored.
Both teams peppered the offensive end as Western Michigan had 20 shots to the Sycamores' nine. Of those eight were on target for the Broncos and four were on frame for the Sycamores.
Hannah Sullivan had five saves in a busy night in goal. With fouls level at 15-15, the Sycamores were saddled with three yellow cards while Western Michigan had a pair.

Some 20 youngsters from the Vigo County Youth Soccer Association were on hand and participated in pregame festivities and received player autographs after the match.
The attention now turns to Sunday when the Sycamores host Chicago State for a 1 pm (ET) matchup at Memorial Stadium. The five Sycamore seniors will be recognized in pregame ceremonies beginning at 12:50 pm (ET). The game will be nationally broadcast on ESPN+.
