Meet Preview:
Indiana State hosts the 2018 NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Friday, November 9 at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in eastern Vigo County. The event begins at 11:15 a.m. with the women's 6K championship race and concludes at 12:15 pm with the men's 10K championship race.

The cost of admission to the event is just $5 per person-cash only.

The women's 6K championship race features 34 teams and 305 individual competitors. Michigan enters the NCAA Great Lakes Regional as the top ranked team in the region and the No. 7 team in the nation. Michigan State enters as the second ranked team regionally and is No. 10 in the nation.
The third ranked team in the Great Lakes Regional is No. 3 Wisconsin who is No. 11 in the nation. Indiana is the fourth-highest ranked team in the Great Lakes and checks in at No. 14 nationally. Of the Top 30 teams in the nation, five hail from the Great Lakes Region as Notre Dame is No. 5 in the region and 18th nationally.

Also in the Great Lakes Region rankings released on October 29 are: Eastern Michigan, Ohio State, Toledo, Butler, Purdue, Miami (OH), Dayton, Western Michigan, Central Michigan and Xavier.

The men's 10K Regional Championship Race features 30 teams and 267 individual competitors. There are five nationally ranked teams including No. 3 Wisconsin, No. 10 Notre Dame, No. 15 Purdue, No. 23 Indiana and No. 27 Michigan. Those five schools go 1-2-3-4-5 in the Great Lakes Region rankings.

Outside of the top five, other teams appearing in the Great Lakes Regional Rankings are: Michigan State, Miami (OH), Butler, Dayton, Youngstown State, Marquette, Bowling Green, Milwaukee, Akron and IUPUI.

This will mark the sixth time that the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Meet has been held in Terre Haute. The tradition began in 1998 and continued in 1999, 2001 and 2003. The meet returned to the Wabash Valley for the first time since 2003 in 2017. Indiana State also hosted the District V Cross Country Championships at the Hulman Links Golf Course. Known as XC Town USA, Terre Haute has hosted the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships 12 times beginning in 2002 and continuing every year from 2004-2011 and then again in 2013, 2014 and 2016. The National Championship Meet returns again to Terre Haute in 2019.
