Box Score CHICAGO – The Indiana State Sycamores defeated the Cougars of Chicago State today (Sept. 24) by a score of 6-2.
The Sycamores came out slow to start the match on what proved to be a sweltering day in Chicago, Ill. Indiana State could not find a rhythm to their play and found themselves on their heels multiple times as the Cougars threw players forward into attack.
In the 26
th minute of play Chicago State found themselves on a breakaway down the left flank. Jensyn Stanberry ripped a shot which narrowly escaped the hands of goalkeeper

This was just the motivation Indiana State needed to pick up the pace. Not even a minute later the Sycamores found themselves in the same position.
Tessa Leong broke out down the right side where she slotted a pass into the box finding
Katie Wells. Wells beat a CSU defender one vs. one and fired a shot tying the match at 1-1.
Indiana State was finally able to settle into a rhythm and work the ball throughout the field of play.
In the 29
th minute Wells notched her second goal of the match when she got on the end of a long forward pass from
Kasey Wallace.
Pam Silies earned her first goal of the season when she received a pass forward from freshman
Abby Groom. Silies beat the goalkeeper and passed the ball into the Chicago State net.
The Sycamores carried this 3-1 lead into halftime.
Starting the second half the Sycamores found themselves being too comfortable yet again and allowed another goal for the Cougars. This made the score 3-2.
Indiana State once again found their momentum and scored four minutes later when
Danielle Varner broke out up the middle and took a touch around a Chicago State defender before firing a shot from the top of the box for a goal.
A minute later Varner added a second goal when
Sydney Hamker played a ball into the box finding Varner who put a shot into the net.
The Sycamores continued firing shots and throwing numbers forward. In the 72
nd minute Indiana State scored their final goal of the match when
Caitlyn Eddy found
Casidy Simonis on a corner kick. Simonis beat a defender on a breakaway and slotted the ball into the bottom corner for a goal.
This rounded out the score at 6-2.
Numerous players contributed today for the Sycamores who also had strong defensive performances from
Carli Chiatto and
Kim Gleason.
Jenna Miller and
Alexis Harte contributed to the strong presence up top.
Indiana State finished the match 24 shots and 15 shots on goal.
The Sycamores will be back in action on Sept. 28 welcoming Missouri Valley Conference opponent Missouri State to Memorial Stadium for a 7 p.m. matchup.
