Sycamores Travel to Face Off with Chicago State on Sept. 24

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Sycamore women's soccer will travel to face off with the Cougars of Chicago State on Sept. 24 at 2 p.m. in Chicago, Ill.

Indiana State enters the match coming off yet another 1-1 weekend of competition. The Sycamores returned home on Sept. 15 to defeat Fort Wayne 3-1 and then traveling to Indianapolis, Ind. on Sept. 17 where they fell to the Butler Bulldogs 1-0.

With the win over Fort Wayne the Sycamores remain undefeated at home holding a 3-0-1 record inside Memorial Stadium.

The Sycamores came out firing against the Mastodons and were able to notch an early goal. In the 24th minute of play Tessa Leong put the ball in the net off a rebound from an Alina Steffen shot. This gave ISU a 1-0 lead.

From this point on Indiana State had full control over the match.

In the 35th minute Katie Wells added the second goal for the Sycamores when she received a pass forward from Casidy Simonis finding herself on a breakaway where she beat the goalie one vs. one and passed the ball into the net.

Wells recorded another goal in the match early in the second half of play.

The Sycamores then hopped back on the bus and headed to Indianapolis, Ind. on Sept. 17 to face off with the Butler Bulldogs.

Despite the sweltering heat the Sycamores and Bulldogs found themselves in an all-out battle for a win.

Each team fired multiple shots and each goalkeeper was making saves continually. Katie Sullivan, Sydney Hamker and Wells all provided shots for the Sycamores, but could not find the back of the net for a goal.

Defensively Indiana State had strong performances from numerous players including Reilly Teal, Kasey Wallace and Sullivan who all played on the backline.

In the 71st minute of play Butler broke out down the right side and crossed a ball to the back post where Breann Pempek headed the ball into the Sycamores net.

This gave the Bulldogs a late 1-0 lead which they carried to the end for a win.

Indiana State will now travel to face off with Chicago State.

The Cougars currently hold a 1-9-0 record and have numerous players leading in the goals and assist category all with one.

In 2016 ISU defeated Chicago State by a score of 7-0.
