TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – It was all Wichita State Friday night as the Shockers picked up a 5-2 win over Indiana State at Bob Warn Field. The Sycamores (26-24, 11-9 MVC) still control their own destiny heading into the finale. With a win, Indiana State would clinch the No. 3 seed in the upcoming MVC Tournament.
The Shockers (27-27, 10-10 MVC) led from start to finish after scoring a run in the first and adding two more in the second inning. Indiana State got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second on a
Jeff Zahn RBI groundout, but would not score again until the ninth inning when senior
Tony Rosselli sent the first pitch he saw over the wall in left center.
Following an RBI single from Willie Schwanke in the first, the Shockers added two more runs in the second to extend their lead to 3-0 after Alex Jackson led off the inning with a double followed by a standup triple from Travis Young. Young would score on a wild pitch two batters later.
Sycamore starting pitcher
Tyler Ward went six innings in his outing, allowing four runs off of seven hits. The sophomore struck out five and walked two on the night. The loss moves the Santa Claus, Indiana native to 4-4 on the season.
Senior
Trent Lunsford was charged with a run after the Shockers opened the game up in the seventh after loading the bases when Luke Ritter hit a two-run single into right on a full count to add insurance for WSU. Right-hander
Damon Olds tossed 2.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen for the Sycamores, retiring three on strikeouts.
