Five RBIs from Rosselli Not Enough as Indiana State Falls to UVU, 9-7

OREM, Utah – A five RBI day from Tony Rosselli was not enough as Indiana State dropped its series finale against Utah Valley Sunday afternoon, falling to the Wolverines 9-7 at Brent Brown Ballpark.

Utah Valley scored six runs in the fifth and six innings to rally past the Sycamores who led 5-2 midway through the contest. Indiana State looked to make a push in eighth after Rosselli's sacrifice fly would to pull the Sycamores within two at 9-7 but that would be as close as ISU would get as the Wolverine bullpen shut the door.

Indiana State (5-6) got on the board early with a three-run second inning after Rosselli came up with a bases-clearing triple scoring Clay Dungan, Jeff Zahn and Danny Camilo. The Trees added a run in the third when Dungan connected on a ball and sent it deep to right field for his first home run of the year.

Utah Valley (3-8) battled back though, scoring runs in each of the next four innings to force ISU to the bullpen. Nick Simmons gave the Wolverines the lead for good in the sixth when he homered to left center. UVU added insurance later in the inning after Trevor Howell sent a two-run shot over the left field wall to make it 8-5.

Overland Park, Kansas native Trent Lunsford (0-1) was charged with the loss after allowing six runs in 1.2 innings of work. The lefty struck out two on the day.

Ethan Larrison got the start on the staff day, going two innings and not allowing a run. Tyler Grauer gave up a pair of runs in two innings while Evan Giles surrendered a run in 1.1 innings. Senior Damon Olds struck out two in the eighth for the Sycamores.

Indiana State will continue its road swing Wednesday when they take on Seattle University in a midweek affair before facing No. 9 Washington in a four-game series starting Friday.
