TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State Sycamores will travel to Des Moines, Iowa to face off with the Drake Bulldogs on Oct. 6 at 8 p.m.
Indiana State is coming off a tough weekend of play where they dropped two matches. Indiana State first fell to the Missouri State Bears 2-1 on Sept. 28 and then fell to UMKC 1-0 on Oct. 1.
The Sycamores now hold a 0-2 record in conference play and will be looking to find their first win over the Bulldogs.
In both matches ISU let up early goals giving themselves an immediate deficit to fight back from. The Sycamores competed hard against Missouri State and UMKC, but could not close the gap.
During play with the Bears ISU notched one goal in the 43
rd minute of play off a counterattack resulting from and MSU corner kick.
Indiana State made their way down field with purpose.
Katie Wells ended up with the ball on the right flank where she slotted a cross into the box and
Tessa Leong slid past two Missouri State defenders to put the ball in the back of the net.
This made the score 2-1 going into halftime. During the second half the Sycamores continually threw shots at the Missouri State net, but both teams were evenly matched and remained strong defensively.
The Sycamores came away with six shots during the second half of play, but were unable to capitalize on any of these chances.
On Oct. 1 Indiana State welcomed UMKC to Memorial Stadium.
The Sycamores yet again gave up an early goal to their opponent, this time in the second minute of play.
The Roo's continued to dominate the first half as ISU could not match the speed of play and energy. Indiana State trailed 1-0 going into halftime.
In the second half ISU came out with a different energy. The Sycamores started to battle and work the ball generating attack.
The game the settled down and the teams found themselves evenly matched. Each one battling to come away with a win.
UNKC had numerous chances during the match, but were unable to capitalize on any after their early goal. The Sycamores suffered the same struggles.
Indiana State ultimately fell 1-0.
The Sycamores now travel to face off with the Drake Bulldogs on Oct. 6 at 8 p.m.
Drake enters the match with an 8-3-1 record as redshirt senior Rebecca Rodgers leads the way with 18 points coming from nine goals.
In 2016 the Sycamores defeated the Bulldogs 3-2 during conference play and then defeated them in penalty kicks of the MVC tournament play in game.
